FARGO, N.D. — The big men of South Dakota continued their impressive run at the US Marine Corps Junior & 16U Nationals.

After finishing third in the freestyle competition earlier in the week (285) Brandon Valley’s Navarro Schunke reached the quarterfinals of the junior Greco-Roman competition Friday. Watertown’s Micah Hach (285) finished fourth in the 16U freestyle competition and also reached the quarterfinals of the 16U Greco-Roman competition. 

Canton’s Ayson Rice (145) advanced to the quarterfinals in the junior division. 

Junior Greco Roman Results: 

(145) - Ayson Rice VSU1 over Jacob Charlesworth, Virginia 9-1; Rice VSU Marley Washington, Georgia, 8-0; Rice VSU Jayden Haueter, Minnesota, 9-0. 

(285) - Navarro Schunke VSU Landon Crandall, New York, 8-0; Schunke VSU AJ Wedge, Oregon, 8-0; Schune VSU Jackson Barnhart, Illinois, 9-0

Other South Dakota athletes participating in the junior greco roman competition were Landon Walker, Harrisburg, Rollie French, Vermillion and Sloan Johannsen, Watertown. 

In the 16u Greco Roman competition Carter Kendrick (Philip/Kadoka Area BWall Badlands Brawlers) and Micah Hach (Watertown) both advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals. Brandon Valley’s Elijah Schunke did not reach the quarterfinals but is still alive in the two day competition.

(285) - Micah Hach VFA Michael Sisk, Illinois, 4-0; Hach VSU Duncan Pinkham, Texas, 8-0; Micah Hach VSU Jamarcus Larvie, Oklahoma, 9-0.

(160) - Elijah Schunke VFA Carter Van Kley, Iowa, 7-0; Schunke VSU1 Zachary Meisenzahl, West Virginia, 15-6; Bradley Rodriquez-Little, Minnesota VSU over Schuke, 9-0.

Other South Dakota wrestlers participating in the 16u Greco Roman competition were Garet Huston, Belle Fourche, Hunter Richmond, Canton, Jacksen Carter, Wolsey-Wessington; Parker Graveman, Spearfish and Zane Miller, Sioux Valley.
