Gregory boys, Elk Point-Jefferson girls win team titles at Wagner Invitational

WAGNER — The Gregory boys and Elk Point-Jefferson girls won team titles at Tuesday’s Wagner Invitational in Wagner. 

The Gregory boys scored 92 points, ahead of Wagner (82) and Platte-Geddes (66). Winner (63) and Mount Vernon/Plankinton (61) rounded out the top five teams. 

Elk Point-Jefferson totalled 112 points, ahead of Platte-Geddes (71) and Mount Vernon/Plankinton (70). Winner (48) and Corsica-Stickney (45) rounded out the top five teams. 

Luke Stukel won the 100-meter dash (:11.91), ran a leg on the second place 800-meter relay (1:33.90) and teamed with Max Cook, Pierce Stukel and Colt Keiser to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:30.93). 

Other winners for the Gorillas included Luke Barreto in the 3,200-meter run (10:14.33), Jhett Eklund in the triple jump (42-00) and Colt Keiser in the high jump (6-06). 

Platte-Geddes won the 400-relay (:44.01) and 800-meter relay (1:31.97) and picked up a win from Carson Vanden Benge in the 200-meter dash (:23.08) and Gabe Fite in the 300-meter hurdles (:43.27). 

Winner picked up wins from Austin Blare in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.77), Karson Keiser in the 800-meter run (2:00.55) and Shawn Hammerbeck in the shot put (46-11). 

Other winners for the boys were Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s Sabas DeHaan in the 400-meter dash (:53.59), Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Hudson Schmidt in the 1,600-meter run (5:06.97), Elk Point-Jefferson in the sprint medley relay (3:54.29), Avon’s Al Gunter in the discus (143-09), Wagner’s Javian Pesicka in the javelin (151-10), Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Kyle Sandland in the pole vault (10-00) and Wagner’s Brayden Kreber in the long jump (20-08.25). 

The Elk Point-Jefferson girls were dominant in the field events as Molli Harkin won the shot put (34-05.5) and discus (119-00). Bentlee Kollbaum won the javelin (107-09) and Paige Jacobs won the long jump (16-06). 

Winner’s Keelie Kuil won the 200-meter dash (:27.51) and anchored relay wins in the 400-meter relay (:51.79), 800-meter relay (1:49.30) and 1,600-meter relay (4:17.21). 

Mount Vernon/Plankinton had wins from Sammi Eide in the 800-meter run (2:22.86), Abigail Engelland in the 1,600-meter run (5:31.81). Regan Rus won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.74) and 300-meter hurdles (:47.21).

Corsica-Stickney’s Braylee Bordewyk won the 400-meter dash (1:00.28) and teamed with Paige Timmermans, Sophie DeLange and Hadynn Johnson to win the sprint medley relay (4:29.85).

Wagner’s Ashlan Koupal won the high jump (5-05) and teammate Addison Cuka won the 100-meter dash (:13.48). 

Other events were won by Ethan/Parkston’s Elle Pollreisz in the 3,200-meter run (12:11.66) and Platte-Geddes’ Claire Maydew in the pole vault (8-06). 

Andes Central/Dakota Christian won the 3,200-meter relay (12:20.69).
