Gregory leads shortened Class B boys golf tourney

RAPID CITY — Rainy conditions dampened Day 1 of the Class B boys golf tournament.

A number of golfers were unable to finish their rounds on Monday at the Elks Golf Course, including individual leader Cooper Long. The Garretson golfer is 2-over-par through 15 holes and will finish his round at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Long, along with more than 60 golfers, will continue their first rounds Tuesday and the South Dakota High School Activities Association will reassess before making a decision on the remainder of the event.

Faulkton Area’s Bennett Cassens and Gregory’s Coy Determan are tied in second place with 76s. Stanley County’s Daysen Titze (through 12) and Wall’s Reid Hansen (through 16) are both currently shooting 4-over pars.

In the team standings, Gregory holds a one-shot lead over Ethan. The Gorillas are 19-over par, while Ethan is one behind. Garretson and Hamlin are two shots behind and tied for third place.
