Ipswich girls, Menno boys take leads at Class B state track meet

SIOUX FALLS — Field event performances from the Ipswich girls vaulted the Tigers into the girls Class B team lead after day one of the state track meet.

Ipswich senior Gracie Lange won the high jump (5-2), Jaylssa Hutson was second in the high jump (9-6) and Marley Guthmiller tied for third in the pole vault (9-0). 

The Tigers scored 24.5 points, ahead of Deubrook Area (15) and Potter County (14). Wolsey-Wessington (11.50) and Colman-Egan (10) and Kadoka Area (10) and Scotland (10) are all in the top-five.

Other state champions Thursday:

3,200 meter relay: Deubrook Area, 9:46.23 (Nora Olsen, Makenna Ekern, Kylee Johnson, Ellie Olsen)

Sprint Medley Relay: 1. Colman-Egan, 4:13.85 (Lanie Mousel, Elaina Rhode, Josie Mousel, Reese Luze (4:13.85, state meet record). 

Pole vault: 1. Gracie Eisenbraun, Kadoka Area, 10-0. 

Shot put: 1. Trinity Bietz, Scotland, 39-1.5.

The Menno boys scored 18 points in the Class B pole-vault and scored 31 points, ahead of Ipswich (21) and Kakoka Area (14) and Kadoka Area (14). 

Thursday’s state champions:

3,200-meter relay: 1. Deubrook Area, 8:16.95 (Treven Grimsrud, Landen Johnson, Jaxon Quail, Gavin Landmark). 

Sprint Medley Relay: 1. Wolsey-Wessington, 3:39.81 (Joey Hoverson, Keegan Haider, Moshe Richmond, Caleb Richmond). 

Triple jump: 1. Rylan McDonnell, 41-9.75. 

Discus: 1. Lincoln Koehn, Kadoka Area, 152-4. 

Pole vault: 1. Owen Eitemiller, 13-3.
