July 26 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Gamecocks top Cardinals, advance to state tourney

Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks 8, Flandreau Cardinals 4

DELL RAPIDS — The Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks punched their ticket to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament and advanced to the District 4B championship game. The Gamecocks will play Canova in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. 


Canova Gang 5, Lennox Alpacas 4

DELL RAPIDS — Perennial power Canova Gang is back in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament. The Gang used a four-run eighth inning to secure a spot in the District 4B championship game. 

Kendall Gassman led Canova on the hill, allowing five hits and two runs in four innings, while striking out three. Derek Miller started the game for Canova, giving up two runs on four hits in three innings, while striking out one.

Garrett Gassman led Canova with three hits in five at bats. Cole Gassman, Riley Genzlinger, Jared Miller, and Trey Krier each drove in one run.

Corey Vasquez took the loss for Lennox, giving up one run on two hits in 1 ⅔ innings, while striking out three and walking one. Brock Anderson started the game for Lennox, allowing eight hits and four runs in 7 ⅓ innings, while striking out three.

Kyle Brown, Drew Sweeter, and Quincy Ihnen tallied two hits apiece to lead Lennox, while Ihnen and Peyton Eich each drove in one run.

Canova plays Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks in the district title game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Redfield Pheasants 6, Locke Electric 0

GROTON — Tommy Gregg threw a five-hit shutout to lift Redfield Pheasants to a District 2B amateur baseball win over Groton Locke Electric on Tuesday. The Pheasants will play Redfield Dairy Queen in District 2B semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Gregg picked up the win for Redfield on the hill, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out six in nine innings.

Jared Kuehn led Redfield with three hits in four at bats and two RBI, while Barrett Wren had two hits. Christian Boomsma also had two RBI. 

Aaron Severson took the loss for Locke Electric, giving up six runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking one.

Heath Giedt led Locke Electric with two hits in four at bats. Dylan Frey, Wilson Bonet, and Tate Larson each had one hit.


Wessington Springs Owls 17, Colome Chaos 11

CHAMBERLAIN — Wessington Springs advances to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament with a District 3B tourney win over Colome on Tuesday. 

Terrek Butterfield earned the win for Wessington Springs, allowing 11 runs on 14 hits in nine innings, while striking out four.

Wessington Springs totaled 18 hits, with Curtis Collins tallying three hits in five at bats. Butterfield tallied three hits, while Gerritt Brandenburg, Trevor Kenobbie, and Coy Fastnacht each added two hits. Dalton Mogck led with five RBI, while Drew Olinger had three RBI. Collins and Landon Cleveland added two RBI apiece. 

Jake Luse took the loss for Colome, giving up nine runs on six hits in 2 ⅓ innings, while striking out three.

Colome tallied 14 hits, with Jackson Kinzer and Kelly O’Bryan totaling three hits to lead the Chaos. Luse and Ethan Vobr added two hits. O’Bryan led with four RBI, while Luse and Kinzer added two RBI.

Colome plays the Plankinton Gold Sox on Thursday in an elimination game. 

Aurora Aces 4, Castlewood Monarchs 2

LAKE NORDEN — Aurora advances to the Class B state tournament with a District 1B tournament win over Castlewood Monarchs on Tuesday.


Renner Monarchs 15, Tea Steam 3

RENNER — Renner picked up an amateur baseball win over Tea on Tuesday.

Emmot Naythan earned the win on the mound for Renner, allowing two hits and two runs in five innings, while striking out seven.

Ben Ihrke led the Renner Monarchs with three hits in five at bats, while Trey Hubers, Mitch Stroh, and Dave Borchardt each had two hits. Stroh and Hubers each tallied four RBI, while Kyle Gulbrandson added three RBI.

Brady Bretzman took the loss for the Tea Steam, giving up five hits and six runs in two innings, while striking out two and walking one.

Cameron Jensen, Jason Munoz, and Trevor Welch each had one hit for the Tea Steam. Welch also had two RBI, along with one home run in the first inning.
