MVP's Berkeley Engelland clocks second-best 800-meter time in state history

ALEXANDRIA — Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Berkeley Engelland clocked the second-best 800-meter time in state history on Monday. 

The senior ran a 2:09.42 in the 800-meter run at the Hanson Invitational. Engelland’s time is only behind Watertown’s Kay Stormo (2:07.90) in 1978. Engelland also won the 100-meter dash (:12.55).

In the team standings, the Hanson boys and West Central girls won team tiles. The Hanson boys edged West Central, 116-115, for the team title. Chester (64) placed third. West Central recorded 126 points, finishing ahead of Hanson (89) and Madison (88.5).

In boys action, Hanson’s Weston Kayser won the 100-meter dash (:11.14) and anchored the winning 400-meter relay (:45.10), winning 800-meter relay (1:34.69) and winning sprint medley relay (3:46.42). The Beavers also won the 1,600-meter relay (3:32.80) and 3,200-meter relay (8:49.39).

Hanson’s Brock Tuttle captured first-place finishes in the shot put (50-4.25) and discus (161-10). 

Hanson’s Keaton Weber captured first place in the long jump (21-11.5) and fourth in the high jump (5-9). 

West Central’s Benjamin Strunk won the 800-meter run (1:59.87). West Central’s Crew Heier won the javelin (151-5) and placed third in the shot put (46-10.25). 

West Central’s Liam Schmeichel won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.18) and placed second in the high jump (5-9). 

Chester’s Jovi Wolf won the 200-meter dash (:22.68), finished second in the long jump (20-9.25), finished second in the triple jump (42-6.5) and placed third in the 400-meter dash (:52.79). 

Mitchell Christian’s Silas Holdeman won the 1,600-meter run (4:29.95) and 3,200-meter run (10:03.53).

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Jeffery Boschee cleared 6-7 in the high jump, currently the top mark in Class A. 

McCook Central/Montrose’s Paul Kaffar won the triple jump (42-9) and placed fourth in the long jump (20-2).

Wagner’s Jhett Breen captured first place in the 300-meter hurdles (:42.27).

Madison’s Nathan Hasleton won the pole vault (12-9).

West Central’s Sadie Berg won the 200-meter dash (:22.66) and finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:02.33). 

The West Central girls won the 400-meter relay (:51.45), 800-meter relay (1:47.17), 3,200-meter relay (10:33.66) 

Menno’s Ashton Massey won the 400-meter dash (:59.44), the 100-meter hurdles (:15.15) and placed third in the 800-meter run (2:22.44). 

Chester’s Emery Larson won the 1,600-meter run (5:05.43) and placed second in the 800-meter run (2:19.73). 

Madison’s Lydia Nelson won the high jump (5-3) and teammate Ella Peterreins won the pole vault (10-3). Nelson also placed second in the long jump (16-0.25) and triple jump (33-11.75).

Kimball/White Lake’s Autumn Baker won the 3,200-meter run (11:36.65).

MVP’s Reagan Rus won the 300-meter hurdles (:47.46) and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.55). 

SCW’s Elizabeth Boschee won the javelin (100-8) and placed fourth in the high jump (4-11). 

Hanson’s Olivia Kayser won the discus (122-1) and Hanson’s Jazzlyn Campbell won the triple jump (33-11.75). 

The Winner girls won the 1,600-meter relay (4:17.29) and the Hanson girls won the sprint medley relay (4:38.37). 

Winner’s Jenaya Schrader won the shot put (37-5.25).
