SATURDAY — On the eve of his transition to South Dakota State, Shane Veenhof made sure his final appearance as a Madison Bulldog was one to remember Saturday.

The senior hurdler claimed the Class A 110-meter hurdles (:14.39) and 300-meter hurdles (:39.17) at the South Dakota state track and field meet at Howard Wood Field. Earlier in the meet, Veenhof set the meet record in the 110-meter hurdles (:14.17) in the prelims.

It was Veenhof’s second straight season sweeping the hurdle races, and Saturday’s sweep buttoned up the stellar career for the future SDSU football player.

“It feels great,” Veenhof said. “First of all I would just like to thank God. I couldn’t do none of this without him and all the support I got back home, the community, my parents. It’s just a blessing to be able to do this in front of everybody.”

In his final prep track and field meet, Veenhof said he focused on his warmups and locked into the task at hand. Mission accomplished on Saturday.

“I am just glad I could go back-to-back and end my track career with a bang,” Veenhof said. “I feel like I did great. I feel like I did what I was supposed to do.”

Up next, Veenhof will move to Brookings on Sunday to begin his SDSU football career. He will play free safety and return kicks for the Jacks.

While he’s looking forward to the next chapter, he’s grateful for his time spent running for the Bulldogs.

“It’s not really even the winning,” Veenhof said. “I like to come out here and have fun with my friends and have a good time.”
