May 13 High School Baseball Roundup - Cole Ruesink's ninth-inning homer lifts Dell Rapids past Brandon Valley

Dell Rapids 8, Brandon Valley 6 (9 innings)

BRANDON — A ninth inning two-run homer by Cole Ruesink pushed top ranked Quarriers past Class A Brandon Valley.

Ruesink finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk, and was one of two Quarriers to homer in the ballgame. 

Drake Eastman and Talan Millage provided a spark in the bottom part of the order for Dell Rapids, recording two hits apiece. Jack Henry, Mason Stubbe, and Treyse Eastman also recorded a hit in the victory.

For Brandon Valley, three players each recorded two hits in the loss. Chase Leary finished 2-for-4 with a walk and drove in three runs, while Braydon Knutson and Luke Smart each added two hits.


Dell Rapids 10, Brandon Valley 7

BRANDON — Five Dell Rapids batters each recorded an RBI as the Quarriers swept Brandon Valley in Monday night’s double header.

Despite recording 11 strikeouts, the Dell Rapids offense managed nine hits and nine more walks to pick up the victory.

Drake Eastman recorded the victory on the mound for the Quarriers, allowing four hits, four walks, and five earned runs in four innings of work. In relief of Eastman, Lincoln Fersdahl and Konrad Richeal combined for one hit, one earned run, and 3 walks allowed across the final three frames to close-out the win.

For Brandon Valley, Nolan Pudwill took the loss on the mound, giving up five hits, four runs, and one walk in a little over one inning pitched. 

Brayden Knutson, Caleb Finn, Colton Padgett, Aiden Zerr, and Maxwell Peters each collected a hit in the loss.


Sioux Falls Christian 14, Lennox 6

SIOUX FALLS — Drew Weir drove in five runs to power Sioux Falls Christian to a high school baseball win over Lennox on Monday. 

Weir finished 2-of-4, including a double and scored two runs. Weir also allowed five hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out two batters in his four-inning start on the mound. 

Tim DeSautel added two hits, a double and drove in two runs. Tate Connell had a single and a triple. Jacob Docter drove in three runs. Jacob Sanderson, Gabe Long and Paul Hoekman each had hits. Sanderson struck out four batters, allowed four hits and one earned run in three relief innings. 

For Lennox, Isaac Bambas, Talen Eich and Cole Spieler had two hits apiece. Braxton Musser, Triston Butler and Ashton Bach each had hits. Spieler took the loss after allowing six hits, five earned runs and struck out five batters in his 3.1-inning start. 


Sioux Falls Christian 10, Lennox 0 (5 innings) 

SIOUX FALLS — Paul Hoekman struck out seven batters and allowed one hit as Sioux Falls Christian blanked Lennox in high school baseball action on Monday.

Hoekman issued one walk and allowed zero runs in his four-inning start. Hoekman had a triple and drove in a run. 

Tate Connell paced Sioux Falls Christian’s offense with three hits and two RBI. Tim DeSautel drove in three runs. Jacob Sanderson and Gabe Long each had hits. Joel Van De Stroet struck out two batters, allowed two walks and zero hits in one relief inning. 

Jaxson Bittner had Lennox’s only hit. Jackson Anacker allowed two hits, three earned runs, four walks and struck out two batters in his two-inning start. 


Vermillion 2, Elk Point-Jefferson 1 

ELK POINT — A dominant pitching performance by Vermillion’s Nolan Nygren and Connor Peterson helped defeat the Huskies Monday night.

Vermillion’s two runs came from a two-RBI triple by second baseman Trey Hansen in the top of the first inning. Hansen finished 2-of-3 with a walk, including a double in the third inning.

Nygren started on the mound for Vermillion, allowing just one hit and one earned run in a little over five innings pitched before Peterson came on to record the final five outs of the game.

For Elk Point-Jefferson, Keaton Gale allowed eight hits, two walks, and two earned runs while throwing nine strikeouts in the loss. 

EPJ’s offense was limited to just two hits in the contest, a single by Kayden Moore and a double by Brody Van Roekel.


Colman-Egan/Flandreau 11, Garretson 6

FLANDREAU — A combined 13 strikeout performance helped power Colman-Egan/Flandreau past Garretson Monday night.

Xavier Bier started on the mound for CEF, throwing 11 strikeouts in five innings, while allowing one hit, six walks, and three earned runs.

Emmett Skrock, Jaden Ers, and Cameron Flute combined for four hits and a walk in the win.

For Garretson, Treyton Decker recorded the loss on the mound, allowing three hits, three walks, and giving up 11 runs. 

Tyler Erickson and Ian Buettner each added hits for the Blue Dragons. The Garretson defense committed five errors in the loss.


Centerville 10, Parker 6

PARKER — Centerville’s Aiden Bobzin tallied a complete game on the mound to push Centerville past Parker Monday.

Bobzin threw all seven innings in the victory, allowing 11 hits, three walks, and five earned runs in the win.

Bobzin was also productive at the plate, adding three hits on four plate appearances, including a double and drove in three runs. Alec Austin, Cole Edberg, and Miles Eide each tallied a hit in the victory. Austin went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, while driving in two more runs.

For Parker, Benson Jones gave up all 10 runs in the loss, allowing seven hits and five walks while dishing nine strikeouts.

Cale Schaeffer led the offense with three hits, while Jevin Erickson and Alek Kuchta each added two more in the loss. 


Rapid City Christian 12, Hot Springs 4

HOT SPRINGS — Rapid City Christian pounded out 14 hits en route to a high school baseball win over Hot Springs on Monday. 

Rapid City Christian’s Benson Kieffer paced the offense with three hits and an RBI. Miaciah Griffith had three hits and drove in three runs. Simon Kieffer logged two hits and two RBI. Caden Von Eye posted two hits and drove in a run. Sully Kieffer, Trevor Wilcox and Vander Von Eye each had hits. Brice Gosch earned the win after scattering eight hits, four earned runs, issued four walks and struck out five batters in a complete-game performance. 

For Hot Springs, Nik Cruz and Blake Hanes had two hits apiece. Jax Tschacher drove in two runs. Jaydon Koffler had a hit. Koffler took the loss after allowing 11 hits, four earned runs and struck out one batter in his six-inning start. 


Madison/Chester 12, Redfield Area 1 (5 innings) 

MADISON — Ben Brooks fanned 11 batters and hit a two-run homer to power Madison/Chester to a high school baseball win on Monday.

Brooks allowed three hits, one earned run and issued one walk through five innings. Tregg McGillivray and Thomas Mechels each had two hits. 

For Redfield Area, Kevin Weller, Chase Odland and Elijah Morrissette each had hits. Hunter Binger took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and striking out three batters.
