Tea Area 9, Sturgis Brown 1

TEA — Clayton Schwebach’s 14 strikeouts help Tea Area defeat Sturgis Brown and punch their ticket to the Class A State Tournament.

Schwebach pitched six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and four walks in 90 pitches, while Nate Christensen shut the door with three more strikeouts in the final frame, allowing the lone Sturgis Brown run.

Three players had big days at the plate for the Titans, Schwebach went 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs, Mason Schramm collected two hits and walk driving in three runs, and Cole McKinney provided a spark in the bottom part of the order, going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, and two RBIs.

For Sturgis Brown, Aidan Wood took the loss for the Scoopers, issuing two hits, nine walks, and five runs in four innings on the mound.

Sturgis Brown was limited to just one hit in the loss, a single by Jack Knutson.

Tea Area won a best-of-three series against the Scoopers to advance to the State A tournament, defeating them in a 15-run mercy rule Wednesday.


St. Thomas More 13, Lead-Deadwood 1 (5 innings)

RAPID CITY — St. Thomas More exploded for nine hits and 10 RBIs to defeat Lead-Deadwood Thursday night.

Owen Ponto was dominant on the mound for the Cavaliers, allowing three hits and one run while fanning seven batters in a complete game win.

Holden Griswald had a massive day at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with a double, driving in four runs. Ponto added two hits and a walk, while Marcus Stauffer, Spencer Johannesen, Chase Donnelly, and Joe Giacametto each collected hits in the win.

For Lead-Deadwood, Jaxson Burleson earned the loss on the mound, suffering three hits, three walks, and three earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched.

Burleson, Ethan Hess, and Beau Wichterman all collected hits for the Golddiggers in the loss.


Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 4, Garretson 2

GARRETSON — The Black Sox took advantage of six Garretson errors as BAH outlasted the Blue Dragons Thursday night.

Ashton Oberle was the winning pitcher for BAH, collecting six strikeouts in five innings of work, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Ethan Bovill closed out the victory with three strikeouts in the final two frames.

Oberle also batted 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI, while Joseph Anderson and Kasen Voss each tallied hits in the victory.

For Garretson, Brecken Weir earned the loss on the mound, suffering three hits, two walks, and three runs in five innings pitched. Weir tallied a hit and an RBI at the plate as well.

Dylan Wolf led the Blue Dragons in hits with two including an RBI double. Ian Buettner and Tyler Erikson each tallied hits in the loss.


Sioux Falls Christian/Sioux Falls Lutheran 3, McCook Central/Montrose 2

SIOUX FALLS — Gabe Long’s RBI sac-fly walked off a combined no-hitter for the Chargers Thursday night.

Jacob Sanderson, Drew Weir, and Paul Hoekman were the three pitchers combining to blank the hit column for the Burros, walking four batters and fanning 12 more in seven innings.

Weir and Sanderson each collected three hits in the win, with Sanderson driving in a run, and Tate Connell added another two hits in four at-bats.

For MCM, Owen Alley and Carter Randall saw the mound in the loss, allowing 10 hits, two walks, and just one earned run while striking out nine.

Alley, Randall, Shea Klinkhammer, and Trystan Traupel each drew walks in the loss.
