Rapid City Stevens 10, Rapid City Central 1

RAPID CITY — Jackson Dial’s 16 strikeout performance propelled the Raiders to a Game 1 victory over Rapid City Central Friday night.

Dial allowed just one hit, two walks, and one unearned run in six innings to go along with his 16 strikeouts. Dial also went 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk at the plate.

The bottom part of the order did the most damage for Stevens, Colten Morland, Luke Hanzlik, and Brody Thompson combined for five hits, a walk, and four RBIs in the win. 

Mason Brooks and Teagan Smith each tallied hits for Stevens as well.

For RC Central, Brian Atkinson took the loss, surrendering seven hits, one walk, and eight runs in five innings. 

Atkinson, Tuck Jones, and Ben Farnsworth each tallied hits in the loss for the Cobblers as well.

Stevens can punch their ticket to the state tournament with a win on Saturday.


Pierre 6, Yankton 5

PIERRE — Yankton’s seventh-inning comeback fell short as the Governors took Game 1 against the Bucks Friday night.

Jett Zabel earned the victory on the mound for Pierre, throwing five strikeouts in five innings, allowing five hits, three walks, and three runs.

Spencer Easland had the big bat, going 3-for-3 at the plate with 2-RBIs in the win. Matthew Brewer added a 2-RBI double, and Zabel also collected one hit and an RBI for Pierre.

For Yankton, Boston Frick took the loss, surrendering four hits, two walks, and three runs in four innings.

Matthew Sheldon was efficient at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, Tate Beste went 2-for-4 on the night, and Owen Wishon added two hits and an RBI.


Sioux Falls Lincoln 11, Huron 1 (5 innings)

SIOUX FALLS — Caden Watson’s one hit, one earned run outing on the mound helped Sioux Falls Lincoln take Game 1 of a best-of-three series Friday night.

Watson threw all five innings for the Patriots in the win, allowing one hit, four walks, and one earned run while striking out seven.

The Sioux Falls Lincoln offense exploded for 11 hits, with Chase Dubois, Brycen Mitchell, Dietrich Haan, and Brayden Olson each collecting two hits in the win, and combining for seven RBIs.

Ryan Hirsch, Colin Lunders, and Nate Motl each collected hits in the win as well.

For Huron, Tommie Martin earned the loss on the bump, surrendering eight hits, three walks, and eight runs in three innings pitched. 

Trace Wenz recorded the only hit for Huron in the loss.

Sioux Falls Lincoln can punch their ticket to the state tournament with a win Saturday.


Harrisburg 16, Sioux Falls Washington 1 (3 innings)

HARRISBURG — Eli Kokenge struck out seven of the nine recorded outs to secure Game 1 against Sioux Falls Washington Friday night.

Kokenge allowed just one hit and one earned run in three innings pitched, throwing just 47 pitches in the win.

Six Harrisburg batters finished the game with multiple hits, but as a team the Tigers combined for 14 hits, including three doubles, two triples, and four home runs.

Teigan Munce had arguably the best day at the plate, batting 2-for-2 with three RBIs, including a double and a home run.

For SF Washington, Brekken Biteler and Zander Bertsch each gave up seven hits, eight runs, and each threw one strikeout in the loss.

The only hit of the game came from a Caleb Bumann home run in the second inning.

Harrisburg can clinch the series and advance to the State A tournament with a win Saturday.


Mount Vernon-Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney 9, Tri-Valley 6

COLTON — Five runs across the final two frames helped the Padres knock off the Mustangs Friday night.

Brady Fox and Tyson Wentland provided the spark on offense, combining for three hits including a double by Wentland, two walks, and four RBIs.

Isaiah Olson, Cain Tobin, and Tyce Feistner each collected one hit and one RBI in the win as well.

Zach Baker earned the victory on the mound, not allowing a single base runner over the final three innings.

For Tri-Valley, the losing pitcher was Landon Schenkel, issuing five runs, four walks, and two more hits in the loss while striking out five.

Alex Wingen garnered two hits, Schenkel went 1-for-1 with 2-RBIs, and Everett Althoff went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.


Sioux Falls O’Gorman 3, Sioux Falls Jefferson 0

SIOUX FALLS — O’Gorman pitcher Jake Wheeler threw seven-shutout innings to take Game 1 against No. 13 Jefferson Friday night.

Wheeler allowed just two hits and one walk in 81 pitches, while striking out four batters to earn the victory.

Charlie Hueners led the Knights offense in hits with two, Hunter Den Boer went 1-for-2 with a 2-RBI double and a walk, and Sully Schlimgen added another hit, walk, and an RBI.

For Jefferson, Braylon Bear took the loss on the mound, surrendering four hits, one walk, and three runs while striking out eight.

Carson Hughes and Brody Jacobsen each earned hits in the loss for the Cavaliers.


Brandon Valley 3, Mitchell 1

BRANDON — Aiden Zerr got the best of the pitchers duel as the Lynx took Game 1 against the Kernels Friday night.

Zerr pitched all seven innings in the win, throwing five strikeouts while allowing five hits, two walks, and one earned run. Zerr also added two hits at the plate.

Jackson Adams had the best day at the plate for Brandon Valley, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Ryland Carroll and Brayden Knutson each drove in a run in the win.

For Mitchell, Blake Brosz took the loss in a complete game effort, suffering five hits and three runs while striking out four batters.

Peyton Madnel earned a multi-hit game in the loss with two, while Gavin Jones drove in the lone run for the Kernels.


Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3, Brookings 1

BROOKINGS — The No. 10 Rough Riders allowed just three hits en route to an upset win over the Bobcats Friday night.

Roosevelt was three outs away from a loss before stunning Brookings with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Noah Verdoorn earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one run in one inning pitched. Jacob Mongar did the bulk of the work in the win, allowing one hit and two walks in 5.1 innings pitched, striking out four.

Lawsen Hensley added two of the four team hits for Roosevelt, but Jaxon and Tucker DeHaan each drove in a run in the final inning.

For Brookings, Nolan Miles took the loss, allowing one hit and three runs in 0.2 innings on the bump.

Addison Ronning, Tate Helmbolt, and Jack Merritt each collected a hit in the loss.


Wagner 5, Canton 3

CANTON — Wagner drew 12 walks to take down the Canton C-Hawks in Region 1B action Friday night.

Frank Soukup earned the victory for Wagner on the mound, throwing a complete game, allowing six hits and three runs while fanning 10 batters.

Soukup also added two hits on five plate appearances, including a double, Christian Doom added two hits with one RBI. Dominic Doom didn’t record an at-bat, walking in two at-bats and getting hit in another two, Trasin Dilts earned an RBI with three walks on the night, and Avery Medicine Bear also drew three walks in the win.

For Canton, Braxton Mulder earned the loss on the mound allowing just one hit, nine walks, and five runs while striking out five in 4.1 innings pitched.

Keyvin Strand and Hunter Richmond each collected two hits for the C-Hawks, including a double for Richmond, and Matthew Anderson tallied a triple in the loss.


Rapid City Christian 16, Sturgis Brown 15 (8 innings)

STURGIS — The Comets survived a late surge by the Scoopers to pick up the extra-inning victory Friday night.

Rapid City Christian pitchers filled up the stat sheet, combining for 11 hits, 12 walks, and 15 runs allowed while striking out 11.

Simon Kieffer led the Comets in hits with three, including a double and an RBI. Four more RCC batters added multiple hits, and five batters tallied one hit apiece.

For Sturgis Brown, Carson Williams allowed 12 hits, four walks, and 13 runs in five innings pitched, but Taten Corkins took the loss, suffering four hits, a walk, and three runs in three innings.

The Scoopers had four players tally multi-hit games, but Tate Johnson was the most efficient at the plate, adding a double and a walk while driving in four runs.
