Nov. 21 Class B Volleyball Roundup - Warner outlasts Colman-Egan in five-set thriller

Warner 3, Colman-Egan 2

SIOUX FALLS — No. 2 Warner outlasted No. 7 Colman-Egan in a five-set thriller during Thursday’s State B quarterfinal round. The set scores were 25-27, 25-13, 25-20, 22-25, and 15-13.

Warner’s Kyleigh Schopp powered the Monarch’s victory with 23 kills, six blocks and five digs, Jaycee Jung recorded 14 kills and 11 digs, Makenna Leidholt tallied 12 kills and two blocks, Reagan Wood had 20 assists and 10 digs, Libby Scepaniak tallied 18 assists, Jordyn Jensen had 23 digs and five assists, while Haleigh Holt recorded 15 digs and four assists in the win.

Colman-Egan’s Brynlee Landis led the offensive attack with 16 kills, 14 digs and three blocks, Elaina Rhode totaled 23 digs and 11 kills, Anna Zwart had seven blocks and six kills, Finley Luze tallied 21 digs, 16 assists, and seven kills, Kaylee Voelker dished out 25 assists and 14 digs in the loss for the Hawks.

Warner advances to the State B semifinals tomorrow night at 6:45 p.m. where it will take on No. 3 Hitchcock-Tulare, while Colman-Egan takes on Gayville-Volin in the consolation bracket at 12:45 p.m.


Chester 3, Castelewood 0

Class B No. 1 Chester had little trouble with Castlewood in the opening round of the Class B state tournament sweeping the Warriors in three sets. The set scores were 25-9, 25-19 and 25-23. 

Jacy Wolf powered the Flyers with 22 kills, nine assists, an ace, eight digs and an assisted block. Lily Van Hal finished with eight kills, 27 digs, two aces, six digs and two assisted blocks. Emmerson Eppard added 10 kills, three aces, ten digs and an assisted block while Emillie Bleeker managed five kills and two assisted blocks. 

For Castlewood Lilly Jacobsen led with five kills, two digs, a solo block and an assisted block. Claire Horn finished with three kills and three digs. Emery Larson dished out 10 assists and finished with five digs while Cassidy Kirwan had three kills, six aces and three digs. 

Chester advanced to Friday’s semifinals where they will play Burke. Castlewood will meet Kakoka Area on Friday afternoon.


Burke 3, Kadoka Area 0

SIOUX FALLS — No. 4 seed Burke swept No. 5 seed Kadoka Area in three sets in quarterfinal action from the Class B state tournament. The set scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13. 

Kailee Frank powered Burke with 14 kills, two assists, three aces, seven digs and an assisted block. Kryie Matucha led with 13 digs but also had three assists and an ace. Emmie Hausmann finished with 13 kills, an assist, three digs and a solo block, Paige Bull managed three kills and two assisted blocks. 

Bella Williams led Kadoka Area with 12 kills and eight digs Madisyn Nemecek had eight kills, an ace and nine digs while Kassidee Williams had 19 assists, a kill and six digs. Shaylee Porch managed two kills, two assists and six digs for Kadoka Area. 

Burke advanced to Friday’s semifinals where they will take on No. 1 seed Chester. Kadoka Area meets Castlewood in Friday’s first game of consolation action.



Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Gayville-Volin 2

SIOUX FALLS — Hitchcock-Tulare survived a tough Gayville-Volin team, advancing to Friday’s State B volleyball semifinal round. The set scores were 18-25, 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-7.

HT’s Katelyn Schroeder powered the Patriots with 27 kills and 23 digs, Lila Johnson recorded 32 assists, 23 digs, four kills and three aces, Gracyn Bixler tallied 11 assists and 10 digs, Cora Hofer had six digs and six blocks, Ella Johnson tallied seven kills and 13 digs, while Emmerie Arthurs recorded 14 digs in the win.

GV’s Maia Achen had 22 kills and 15 digs, Paisley Dimmer and Kayden Bye each had 11 kills and a block, Aliza Westrum totaled seven kills and eight digs, Jolie Westrum tallied 21 digs and four kills, while Taylor Hoxeng had 22 digs and three assists in the loss.

Hitchcock-Tulare will face Warner in the State B semifinals Friday at 6:45 p.m. while Gayville-Volin plays Colman-Egan in the consolation bracket Friday at 12:45 p.m.
