Nov. 23 State B Volleyball Roundup - Burke knocks off Hitchcock-Tulare to finish third at Class B state tournament
The Burke Cougars knock off the Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots for the Class B third-place title during the state tournament on Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

Burke 3, Hitchcock-Tulare 0

SIOUX FALLS — No. 5 Burke swept Hitchcock-Tulare to capture third place at the Class B state volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-19, 25-21, and 25-16.

Burke’s Emmie Hausmann rallied 13 kills and three digs, Kailee Frank had 11 kills and 18 digs, Ava Sargent totaled 16 assists and nine digs, Emmy Spencer rallied 12 assists, eighth digs and four kills, Addi Hood recorded three kills, Paige Bull tallied 10 kills and three blocks, while Kyrie Matucha had 13 digs and five assists in the win for the Cougars.

HT’s Katelyn Schroeder tallied 18 kills and 11 digs, Ella Johnson had six kills, Lila Johnson recorded 22 assists and seven digs, Cora Hofer had five kills, three digs and two blocks, Gracyn Bixler tallied nine assists and eight digs, Cambree Hoekman had 17 digs, while Isabel Gilbert recorded five digs, two blocks and three aces in the loss for the Patriots.


Gayville-Volin 3, Kadoka Area 1

SIOUX FALLS — Gayville-Volin will take home seventh place after defeating Kadoka Area during Saturday’s State B volleyball action. The set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-16.

GV’s Maia Achen led the effort with 26 digs, 18 kills, four blocks and two aces, Britton Scheetz dished out 37 assists, 10 digs and two blocks, Paisley Dimmer recorded 11 kills and four digs, Jolie Westrum had 26 digs, three kills and two aces, Kayden Bye totaled nine kills and seven blocks, while Aliza Westrum tallied five kills and four digs in the win.

KA’s Bella Williams tallied 18 kills and 15 digs, Kassidee Williams recorded 36 assists, 11 digs and four digs, Madisyn Nemecek totaled nine kills and 20 digs, while Makaylan Bonenberger had 15 digs in the loss for the Kougars.


Colman-Egan 3, Castlewood 2

SIOUX FALLS — No. 7 Colman-Egan earned the Class B consolation championship after defeating No. 8 Castlewood in a five-set thriller during Saturday’s State B volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, and 19-17.

CE’s Brynlee Landis recorded a game-high 21 kills, 17 dogs, two aces and two blocks, Elaina Rhode had 19 digs and 18 kills, Anna Zwart tallied nine kills, five digs and three blocks, Finley Luze had 29 assists, 11 digs, five kills and two blocks, Kaylee Voelker recorded 26 assists, eight digs, five kills and four blocks, while Presley Luze had 26 digs, three aces and two assists in the victory.

Castlewood’s Emerson Carter cracked 18 kills, nine digs and five blocks, Cassidy Kirwan tallied 17 assists, 23 digs, nine kills and three aces, Lilly Jacobsen tallied six kills and four blocks, Nora Solberg had 24 digs, Dayton Knecht recorded 11 digs and four aces, while Cydni Kudrna and Ava Ruml each had seven assisted blocks in the loss.
