Oct. 24 Football Roundup - Hanson outlasts Thunderhawks in Class 9AA playoffs

Hanson 27, Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian 26

LAKE ANDES — Hanson edged Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian in the opening round of the Class 9AA playoffs on Thursday. 

Esten Schlimgen completed 11-of-20 passes for 239 yards and threw four passing touchdowns. Cole Dewald hauled in two touchdown catches, while Weston Kayser and Stetson Riggs both caught touchdowns. Kayser finished with two catches for 62 receiving yards. Sutton Dewald posted 10 tackles, while Riggs had nine tackles. 

For TDAACDC, Hunter Loeffler rushed for 152 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns. Garth Maas added two rushing touchdowns. Jamian Medicine Horn rushed for 122 yards on 15 carries. AJ Johnson logged five tackles.


Mount Vernon/Plankinton 8, Wagner 0

MOUNT VERNON — A Riley Mayer rushing touchdown was the difference as Class 11B No. 4 Mount Vernon/Plankinton avoided an upset from Wagner during Thursday’s playoff action.

Mayer ran the ball four times for 26 yards and a score, Brady Fox had 15 carries for 74 yards, while Kyle Sandland had 36 yards rushing on eight carries. Isaiah Olson completed three passes for 42 yards, with Mayer reeling in 37 yards on one catch. Tyce Feistner recorded 7.5 tackles on defense, Jon Jones added 5.5 tackles, while Camden Stahl totaled 3.5 with an interception in the win as well.

Wagner’s Gannon Knebel rushed 17 times for 35 yards while completing 13 passes for 124 yards.Carlos Galindo caught five passes for 62 yards, Parker Petry recorded eight tackles while Brayden Kreber tallied five tackles in the loss.


Leola/Frederick Area 22, Kimball/White Lake 14 (OT)

FREDERICK — Leola/Frederick Area outlasted Kimball/White Lake in overtime in Class 9AA playoff football action on Thursday.

Leola/Frederick Area stats were not reported. 

KWL’s Iden Myers rushed 23 times for 166 yards and a touchdown. Johnny Lenz had 31 yards and Carter Konechne had 10 yards on the ground. Cooper Leiferman finished with nine tackles. Graden Holan had seven tackles and one sack, while Carter Konechne had sixt tackles and two interceptions, including a pick-six. 


Winner 38, Hot Springs 14

WINNER — Winner’s Karson Keiser racked up four touchdowns as the Warriors advanced to the Class 11B quarterfinals Thursday night.

Keiser had 10 carries for 163 yards and three rushing touchdowns while catching a 24-yard touchdown, Gus Bartels added 34 yards rushing on four carries, including a touchdown, Zac Olson had five carries for 42 yards while Eli Vobr tallied 31 yards on seven carries in the victory.

Hot Springs’ Clancy Koupal tallied 112 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, Connor Kramer tallied 58 yards on six carries, while Grant Heil completed three passes for 22 yards in the loss.


Dupree 50, Harding County-Bison 28

BUFFALO — Braydon Terveen-Smith racked up 336 yards and four rushing touchdowns as the Tigers pulled off the upset-bid over Harding County-Bison in Thursday’s Class 9A playoffs. It was Dupree’s first win over the Ranchers since 1988. 

Terveen-Smith totaled 339 yards and four touchdowns on just 25 carries, Tre White Wolf had 41 yards and touchdown on seven carries, Roper Eaton had two touchdowns on six carries, while Cruz Birkeland added 60 yards rushing on eight carries and two interceptions defensively. Fletcher Birkeland tallied eight tackles on defense, while Eaton had seven tackles and a sack as well.

HCB’s Rylee Veal tallied 102 yards on 17 carries while catching five passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Hayden Pihl totaled 223 yards and three touchdowns passing on 18 completions, Nayati Bickerdyke caught seven passes for 122 yards and a score, while Kaden Green caught two passes for 31 yards and a touchdown as well. Lincoln Wickstrom led the Ranchers defensively with seven tackles.


Parkston 58, Stanley County 6

PARKSTON — Parkston rushed for 342 yards and seven rushing touchdowns as the top-seeded Trojans knocked off Stanley County in the opening round of Class 9AA playoffs.

Kolter Kramer had four carries for 38 yards and two touchdowns, Kaden Holzbauer had seven carries for 103 yards and two scores, Mason Jervik tallied five carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Maxan Bax racked up 74 yards and a score on seven carries. Gage Reichert added 40 yards on two carries in the win as well.

Stanley County’s Weston Prince tallied 49 yards passing on seven completions, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions, Colton Brady rushed five times for 11 yards, while Paxton Deal recorded four catches for 35 yards and a touchdown in the loss.


Canistota 44, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 8

CANISTOTA — Easton Miller racked up 105 yards and two touchdowns as Canistota topped Oldham-Ramona/Rutland during Thursday’s 9B playoff action.

Miller had 105 yards and two scores on just seven carries while racking up five tackles defensively, Prayden Acheson had 54 yards and a score on five carries, Levi Schroeder tallied 52 yards and a touchdown on two carries, while Brady Scott totaled a touchdown and 32 yards on three carries. Scott completed three passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, with Schroeder catching the touchdown from 36-yards out.

ORR’s Boyd Pooler totaled 94 yards passing on five completions, throwing one touchdown, while Garet Wicks caught two passes for 58 yards and a score. Brayden Hanson and Wicks each recorded four tackles in the loss as well.


Elkton-Lake Benton 54, Great Plains Lutheran 0

ELKTON — Elkton-Lake Benton blanked Great Plains Lutheran in Class 9AA playoff action on Thursday.

Colt Beck completed 9-of-12 passes for 235 yards and four passing touchdowns. Beck added 47 yards rushing and three more scores. Tanner Stein rushed for 63 yards on four carries. Eliot Erickson rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown. Stein hauled in six catches for 37 yards and caught two touchdowns. Savion Stephens and Tanner Drietz hauled in touchdown receptions. Defensively, Stein had 11 tackles. Taiton Boersma added two sacks, while Quintin Westley and Joseph Nibbe had sacks. 

For GPL, Brody Scharlemann passed for 47 yards. Micah Holien rushed for 67 yards and Lucas Johnson posted 26 yards receiving. 


Ipswich 44, Estelline-Hendricks 12

IPSWICH — Ipswich picked up a Class 9A first-round playoff win on Thursday.

Ipswich’s Max Kulesa passed for 54 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Kulesa threw two touchdown passes to Jaxon Holt and one to Kyle Hettich. Casey Geditz rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Hettich returned a 77-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Hayden Schlosser threw a passing touchdown to Hettich. 

For Estelline-Hendricks, Carson Reitz threw a passing touchdown to Wyat James. Regan Schwartz returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.


Elk Point-Jefferson 44, Flandreau 14

ELK POINT — Keaton Gale tossed five touchdown passes as the Huskies took down Flandreau during Thursday’s opening round of Class 11B playoffs.

Gale completed 10-of-16 pass attempts for 374 yards and five touchdowns of 33, 59, 62, 81, and 83 yards each. Ashton Fairbacks caught five passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns, Luke Schmitz caught three passes for 92 yards and a score, while Brody VanRoekel had a 33-yard touchdown reception as well. Grayson Girard totaled 49 yards and a touchdown on four carries in the win as well.

Flandreau’s Paul Parsley completed 20 passes for 188 yards while Cameron Flute threw a 59-yard touchdown on his lone attempt. Karter Headrick rushed 12 times for 72 yards and a score, Micah Otto caught two passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, while Kody Kneebone had three catches for 69 yards in the loss.


Sioux Valley 47, Deuel 26

VOLGA — Donovan Rose and Brock Christopherson combined for over 400 rushing yards as the Cossacks advanced to the Class 11B quarterfinals with a win over Deuel Thursday night.

Rose totaled 205 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, Brock Christopherson had 203 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries, Jakob Guthmiller added 25 yards on the ground, Mitchell Guthmiller scored a 15-yard touchdown run, while Wyatt Hardt had a seven-yard touchdown run in the win as well.

For Deuel, Aiden Sievers completed 11-of-15 pass attempts for 222 yards and three touchdown passes, Gabe Sather caught eight passes for 150 yards and one touchdown, Oliver Fieber had three catches for 72 yards, while Brock Johnson totaled 27 yards and a touchdown on four carries in the loss.


Dell Rapids St. Mary 62, Irene-Wakonda 12

DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids St. Mary racked up 403 yards rushing en route to a Class 9B playoff win on Thursday. 

Trimmier Hanson led the Cardinals with 178 yards rushing on eight carries and scored three touchdowns. Hanson added a passing touchdown. Lincoln LeBrun added 127 yards rushing on seven carries and a touchdown run. Jake Heinitz rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown. Thomas LaVoy added 22 rushing yards. Maverick LeBrun hauled in two catches for 69 yards and a touchdown reception. Lincoln LeBrun posted 8.5 tackles. Jake Kopsas had two interceptions, including a pick-six. Maverick LeBrun added two sacks. 

Irene-Wakonda finished with 255 total yards.


Madison 34, Milbank 6

MADISON — Madison forced five Milbank interceptions to defeat the Bulldogs in the final week of 11A football regular season action.

Ben Brooks led the Madison rushing attack with 44 yards and a score on six carries, Cohen Hahn completed 21-of-38 pass attempts for 248 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, Shane Veenhof caught 12 passes for 168 yards and two scores, while Ben Brooks reeled in seven passes for 70 yards. Defensively Tregg McGillvray tallied 12 tackles (two for a loss), Caleb Hodges had nine tackles, a sack, and an interception, while Brooks and Veenhof each recorded two interceptions in the win.

Milbank’s Tate Schlueter tallied 26 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, Braylen Bowsher completed 7-of-16 pass attempts for 103 yards and four interceptions, Emmett Hanson had three catches for 73 yards, while Schlueter added another 52 yards on three completions, and another interception in the loss.


Rapid City Christian 32, Belle Fourche 16

RAPID CITY — Simon Kieffer tossed four touchdowns as the Comets took down Belle Fourche during Thursday’s 11A football action.

Kieffer was 17-of-29 passing for 297 yards passing and four touchdowns, rushing 13 times for 78 yards. Reed Lindberg had 70 yards on 15 attempts and one rushing touchdown. Lars Kieffer had four catches for 80 yards. Sully Kieffer had two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Wes Schlabach had two catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Justus Beautiful Bald Eagle had five catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. Reagan Koskan had one catch for nine yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Reed Lindberg had 11 tackles, two were for losses and had an interception and a forced fumble as well.

Belle Fourche’s stats were not reported.


Tea Area 15, Sioux Falls Washington 14

TEA — Tea Area finished the year 5-4 after knocking off Class 11AAA Sioux Falls Washington in a thriller Thursday night.

Tea Area’s rushing attack was led by Cole McKinney rushing for 99 yards on 10 carries, Tyler Rhead and Dawson Eimers each had a rushing touchdown racking up a combined 74 yards, while Parker Wilson led the defense with eight total tackles.

SFW’s Ralph Williams carried the ball 18 times for 98 yards including two catches for 46 yards, Brayden Jackson had five carries for 15 yards and a touchdown run, Thomas Hoffman completed 12-of-21 pass attempts for 177 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Jhace Woods caught five passes for 37 yards, Owen Warne had two for 22 yards, while Tayvin Laddusaw caught a 38-yard touchdown in the loss.
