Oehme brothers power Brandon Valley to third consecutive Class A wrestling title
Brandon Valley’s Trason Oehme gets a takedown of Huron’s Moses Gross during the 145-pound final Friday at the State Wrestling Tournament at the Summit Arena in Rapid City. Oehme defeated Gross in the feature match with a 6-3 decision.

Oehme brothers power Brandon Valley to third consecutive Class A wrestling title

RAPID CITY — For much of the Class A state wrestling tournament Brandon Valley had some company. Pierre had a slight lead over the Lynx after Day 1 of the state tourney. 

As the matches got bigger Brandon Valley got better as the Lynx cruised to their third consecutive Class A team title. Brothers Trevon Oehme (113), Jordon Oehme (132) and Trason Oehme (145) each won titles. Alex Mentzer (138) won a second consecutive championship and Navarro Schunke, only a junior, won a fourth consecutive (285) title. 

Brandon Valley scored 208.5 points, ahead of Watertown (184.5) and Pierre (182). Sturgis (139) and Harrisburg (107) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Gage Lohr (106) and Sloan Johannsen (120) won titles for Watertown. 

Maddix Slykhuis (126) and Sam Werdel (170) both won titles for Tea Area. 

Other individual titles went to Mitchell’s Jagger Tyler (152) who repeated as state champion. Pierre’s Deegan Houska (160) won a title while Sturgis senior Reese Jacobs (182) won a third consecutive state championship. Harrisburg’s Jack Detert (195) and Chamberlain's Noah Hutmacher (220). 

Brandon Valley’s Alex Mentzer (138) was named the Class A Outstanding Wrestler.
