Potter County girls, Philip boys win cross-country titles in Highmore
Potter County sophomore Dannika Kaup won Saturday's cross-country face in Highmore and helped the Battlers win the team title.

HIGHMORE — The Potter County girls and Philip boys ran to cross-country titles at Saturday’s Action Club Meet at the Highmore Golf Course. 

The Battlers and Scotties are defending Class B team champions and looked every bit the part at Saturday’s meet. 

Potter County claimed three finishers in the top-five Saturday scoring just six points, ahead of Faulkton (26) and Stanley County (35). North Central (36) and MIller (44) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Philip and Miller battled again for the team championship with the Scotties scoring 11 points, ahead of Miller (16) and Dupree (28). North Central (45) and Highmore (59) rounded out the top-five boys teams. 

Potter County sophomore Dannika Kaup ran Saturday’s 5,000-meter course in 19:59, ahead of Highmore’s Autumn Fallis (20:19) and Ipswich’s Madisyn Gellhaus (20:29). Potter County athletes Emma Schlachter (20:30) and Jadyn Ahlemeier (20:31) were the top-five finishers. 

Miller’s Pierce Baumberger won Saturday’s race 16:17, ahead of Philip’s Wakely Burns (16:25) and Miller’s Alex Schumacher (16:47). Philip’s Asher Peterson (16:53) and Potter County senior Nicholas Schlachter (16:56) rounded out the top-five performers.

The Philip boys had five athletes finish in the top-eight of Saturday’s race. In addition to Burns and Peterson, Baylor Burns (17:00), Tukker Boe (17:02) and Trey Larson (17:07) all had great races.
