Redfield, Watertown capture state amateur basketball titles

PRESHO — Redfield and Watertown claimed South Dakota amateur basketball state championships on Sunday. 

Watertown won the Class B title, while Redfield won the Class C championship. 

Watertown defeated Huron, 69-46, for its championship. MVP Kyle Weisner led Watertown with 18 points, while Landon Gerdes netted 14 points. Justin Brown added 13 points. 

For Huron, Terrell Newton scored 16 points and Justin Decker had 10 points. 

In the C title game, Redfield held off Lake Preston (74-63) for the championship. 

MVP Jaxson Frankenstein led Redfield with 17 points, while Jared Kuehn added 16 points. Drew Dickhaut and Cooper Walton scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Lake Preston’s Tyler Tappe netted 22 points and Carter Malone scored 15 points. Logan Secker added 11 points.

The Class C All Tournament team included: Trevor Lapour-Pierre, Cruz Garnos and Gideon Mendoza-Presho, Jeff Haufschild and Ethan Clarke-Watertown, Tyler Ogle and Brandon Spanier-Faulkton, Brock Dufek and Tyler Tappe- Lake Preston, Cooper Walton, Jared Kuehn, and MVP Jaxson Frankenstein of champion Redfield.       

The Class B All Tournament team included: Lars Backward-Pierre, Jason Spicer- Mt.Vernon, Bennett White-Wolsey, Ty Hoglund-Dell Rapids, Jacob Giles and Tait Sabbil-Corsica, Doug Hanson and Noah Vettrus-Lennox, Justin Decker and Lorenzo Williams-Huron, Justin Brown, Landon Gerdes, and MVP Kyle Weisner of champion Watertown.
