Sept. 12 Cross-Country Roundup - Northwestern's Ella Boekelheide claims Webster Invitational

WEBSTER — Northwestern distance ace Ella Boekelheide won Monday’s Webster Invitational. 

The freshman covered the 5,000-meter distance at Webster Golf Course in 19 minutes and :57.21 seconds, finishing ahead of Deuel’s Jaycee Hourigan (20:16.28). Waubay/Summit’s Madison Zirbel (20:24.97), Frederick Area’s Morgan Sumption (20:58.75) and Deubrook Area’s Ellie Olsen (21:09.01) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Clark/Willow Lake won the girls team title with 24 points, edging out Frederick Area (27) and James Valley Christian (32).

Deuel’s Ricky Berndt won the boys individual race in 17:33.77, while Tri-State’s Kaleb Foltz (17:43.76) placed second. Northwestern’s Lincoln Woodring (18:08.86), Frederick Area’s Milo Sumption (18:45.19) and Northwestern’s Nathan Melius (18:57.67) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

Frederick Area won the boys team title with 31 points, finishing ahead of Northwestern (37) and Deubrook Area (52). 


Flandreau boys, Sioux Valley girls capture team titles at Arlington Invite

ARLINGTON — The Flandreau Fliers boys cross country team captured team honors at the Arlington Invitational on Monday.

The Fliers finished with a team score of 19, 10 points ahead Baltic and Arlington (29), which tied for second. Howard and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket tied for fourth with a score of 55.

Individually, Howard’s Caden Schwader took home the title with a time of 17:40.72. Baltic’s John Gronewold finished second with a time of 17:49.15, while Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Jeff Boschee finished with a time of 18:12.44 for third place. Flandreau’s Tanner Reed (18:12.89) and Baltic’s Alex Langner (18:21.15) rounded out the top five.

On the girls side, Sioux Valley won the team title with a score of 12, while Flandreau placed second with a score of 16. Arlington finished third with a score of 20, while Baltic (36) and De Smet (52) rounded out the top five.

Sioux Valley’s Isabelle Bloker took home individual honors with a time of 18:47.99. Flandreau’s Faith Wiese (20:00.60) took second, while Reese Luze of Colman-Egan recorded a time of (21:05.93) for third place. Kiley Westberry of Flandreau (21:19.48) and Liberty Trygstad of SIoux Valley (21:58.87) rounded out the top five.


Dugan, Gropper win White River meet

WHITE RIVER — Jones County’s Jolie Dugan and Bennett County’s Tyce Gropper captured individual titles at Monday’s White River Prestige Run.

Dugan covered the 5,000-meter distance in 23:08.63 at the White River Rodeo Grounds. Wall’s Alexis Stephan (24:41.93) and Todd County’s Elizabeth Moore (25:33.68) placed second and third, respectively. Todd County’s Cadance Amiotte (26:12.82) and Wall’s Taylee Dartt (26:23.68) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Gropper won the boys race in 20:07.83, finishing ahead of Kadoka Area’s Hudson Taylor (20:28.98). Crow Creek’s Bradyn Brother of All (20:33.94), Crazy Horse’s Sinte Bear Killer (21:12.07) and Crazy Horse’s Kaydo Hornbeck (22:11.46) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

Wall won the girls team title with 15 points and was the only team that scored points. No points team kept on the boys side.
