PLATTE — Silas Holdeman powered Mitchell Christian to a boys team title at Saturday’s Platte-Geddes Invitational. 

Holdeman covered the 5,000-meter distance in 16 minutes and :36.40 seconds, finishing ahead of teammate Luke Mentele (17:12.66). Freeman Academy/Marion’s Finley McConniel (17:21.83) and Freeman’s Lane McCune (17:25.99) finished third and fourth, respectively. Mitchell Christian’s Sawyer Holdeman (17:51.25) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Mitchell Christian won the boys team title with 37 points, ahead of FAM (82) and Gregory (92).

In girls action, Burke’s Sophia Bauld (20:24.00) won the individual race. Platte-Geddes’ Berklee Mils (20:30.20) and Gregory’s Abigail Engel (22:06.60) placed second and third, respectively. ACDC’s Aspen Niewenhuis (22:10.87) and Scotland’s Elle Hlavac (22:11.09) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Platte-Geddes won the girls team title with 38 points, finishing ahead of Mitchell Christian (68) and ACDC (77).

Deuel wins team, individual honors at Castlewood Invitational

CASTLEWOOD — The Deuel boys and girls cross-country teams won titles at Saturday’s Castlewood Invitational. 

The Deuel boys, with 13 points, finished ahead of Estelline/Hendricks (21) and Elkton-Lake Benton (30). The Deuel girls, with 10 points, edged Arlington (11) and De Smet (32). 

Individually, Deuel’s Sutton Benck won with a time of 16:52, ahead of Elkton-Lake Benton’s Nate Timm (16:56) and Castlewood’s Nolan Eidson (17:02). Estelline/Hendricks’s Kyler Marson (17:05) and Deuel’s Tyson Hagberg (17:08) rounded out the top-five. 

Deuel’s Jaycee Hourigan won the girls race in 19:45, ahead of Arlington’s Kaelyn Ulschmid (20:12) and Arlington’s Madalyn Madsen (21:15). Deuel’s Shyla Tvedt (21:19) and Deuel’s Isabella Imm (:21:37) rounded out the top-five.
