Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Eddie Whiting has verbally committed to play college football at Michigan State. The junior tight end announced his intentions to join the Spartans on Twitter on Feb. 8.

A 6-foot-6, 230-pounder, Whiting is a three-star prospect according to 247sports.com and a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com. He’s the 18th-ranked tight end in the Class of 2026 rankings, according to 247sports.com. He's also listed as the No. 357 overall prospect and No. 2 player from South Dakota.

Whiting picked the Spartans over scholarship offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota State, UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin, Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Illinois and Iowa.

Eddie is a difference maker for us, not just in the pass game but his blocking all year was phenomenal,” said former Jefferson coach Vince Benedetto, who is now the tight ends coach at South Dakota State. “He is a P4 football player. I think he is a no-brainer all-state football player based on his receiving and blocking this past season.”

Whiting was the Class 11AAA all-state tight end in 2024, finishing with 29 receptions for 383 yards and six touchdown receptions.
