South Dakota girls compete at Folkstyle National wrestling tournament

OMAHA, Neb. — Three wrestlers from South Dakota competed at the Folkstyle National Wrestling tournament this weekend. 

Canton wrestlers Sara Schroder (112 pounds) and Zoe Adam (200), along with Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda’s Gia Miller (169) all competed in the weekend tournament. 

Adam wrestled eight matches over a two-day period coming away with a fourth-place finish. Schroder went 2-2 at the tournament and Miller finished 0-2. 

The meet featured 41 states competing with over 270 wrestlers in attendance. 

After finishing the individual tournament Friday each girl was asked to fill in on other state’s teams for the dual portion of the tournament. Adam wrestled with team North Carolina and finished with a 3-1 record. Schroder and Miller wrestled for team Montana with Schroder finishing with a 1-4 record while Miller went 2-3 in the dual tournament. 

Schroder (113) and Adam (190) each won state titles at the recently completed South Dakota state wrestling tournament. Miller (170) finished fourth in the South Dakota state tournament.
