Spearfish girls, Sturgis boys capture team titles at Black Hills Conference meet

RAPID CITY — The Spearfish girls and Sturgis boys captured team titles at Friday’s Black Hills Conference track and field meet. 

The Spearfish girls posted 213 points, ahead of Custer (138) and Sturgis (110). The Sturgis boys logged 167 points, finishing ahead of Spearfish (130) and Custer (99). 

Sturgis’ Aidan Hedderman equaled his fastest time of the year winning the 110-meter hurdles (:14.27). Hedderman also won the pole vault (14-6) and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (:40.96) and second in the 100-meter dash (:10.95). Ty Petrocco finished second in the 1,600-meter run (4:26.86). Aaron Morovitis won the shot put (49-9) and discus (126-6) and Levi Brant won the javelin (149-10).

Hot Springs senior Braden Peterson won the 100-meter dash (:10.85), the 200-meter dash (:22.28) and ran the opening leg on the Bison’s winning 400-meter relay (:44.08). Matt Close won the 400-meter dash (:51.08) and finished second in the 800-meter run (1:58.77)

Rapid City Christian’s Ezra Wildeman finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.93) and won the 300-meter hurdles (:40.85). Adam Stines won the high jump for Rapid City Christian (6-3). 

Hill City’s Luke Rupert won the 1,600-meter run (4:26.83) and anchored the winning sprint medley team (3:49.72). Brandon Escalante won the 800-meter run (1:56.79)

Spearfish freshman Thomas Hughes was fourth in the 100-meter dash (:11.20), second in the high jump (6-3) and second in the long jump (20-0). Bennett Kortan won the long jump for the Spartans (21-3.5)

Custer’s Kincade Lehman won the triple jump (45-3) with older brother Drew Lehman finishing second (42-11). 

The Spearfish girls had a banner day on the track with Maria Bouman winning the 400-meter dash (:57.49). Peyton VanDeest won the 800-meter run (2:19.54) and the 1,600-meter run (5:17.46) and the 3,200 meter run (11:42.94). The Spearfish girls won the 800-meter relay (1:46.84), the 3,200 meter relay (10:10.27) and the sprint medley relay (4:25.67). The Spartan girls added wins in the high jump from Adelyn Bouman (5-3), Taylor Vitto in the javelin (108-7) and Gretchen Adamski in the pole vault (11-6).

Custer’s Jordyn Larsen won the 100-meter dash (:12.21) and ran a leg on the second place 400-meter relay (:51.61). Jayda Bennett won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.76). Emily Borkowski won the discus (117-00) with teammate Karyn Ellerton finishing second (116-3

Sturgis junior Avery Marler was second in the 100-meter dash (:12.50), fourth in the 200-meter dash (:26.98), second in the 400-meter run (:58.28) and won the long jump (17-5.5). 

Other notable performances came from Hot Springs senior Carlie DeBoer winning the 300-meter hurdles (:46.69), Belle Fourche winning the 400-meter relay (:51.01), Rapid City Christian’s Kayla Dilka winning the shot put (39-1) and Hill City’s Alaina Dean winning the triple jump (36-00.25)
