Sturgis senior Ty Petrocco wins fast 1,600-meter run to highlight action at West River AA preview

RAPID CITY — On the opening day of his senior outdoor season Ty Petrocco looked sharp in winning the 1,600-meter run (4:28.69). Petrocco’s time was 10 seconds faster than second place finished Casey Nauta of Spearfish (4:38.19)

Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest was among a handful of athletes that won two events. VanDeest won the 800-meter run (2:16.52) and the 3,200-meter run (11:18.18). 

Rapid City Stevens’ Ella Bradeen won the 100-meter dash (:12.80) and 200-meter dash (:25.52). Stevens athlete Ava Holzwarth won the triple jump (19-06) and triple jump (37-01.5)

Rapid City Stevens’ Jack Day won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.45) and 300-meter hurdles (:39.88). 

Rapid CIty Central’s Brayden Jackson won the 100-meter dash (:11.79) and 400-meter dash (:51.22).

Field event winners for the girls were claimed by Rapid City Central’s Leah Landry in the javelin (12-10), Central’s Abigail Flanegan in the shot put (37-04), Rapid CIty Stevens’ Addison Benson won the high jump (4-10) and Summer Marnette in the discus (104-03). 

Field event titles for the boys were claimed by Sturgis’ Levi Brant in the javelin (188-00), Rapid City Stevens’ Elias Gillen in the shot put (56-07), Rapid CIty Stevens’ Jess Christensen in the long jump (21-10.5), Rapid City Stevens’ Kaleb Kangootui in the pole vault (11-09) and Rapid City Central’s Layne Bixby in the discus (151-05).
