Team South Dakota sending 11 athletes to short-go at National High School Finals Rodeo

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Preliminary action from the National High School Finals Rodeo ended Saturday morning and once again South Dakota showed its might with a number of elite performances. 

Spearfish’s Brylee Grubb won her performance in the goat tying with a time of 7.11 seconds. Sophie Hruby of Hemingford, Nebrask, representing South Dakota had a pole bending run of 20.158. Bareback rider Reece Reder of Fruitdale scored a 70 to finish fourth in his performance. 

On Friday, Clear Lake’s Devon Moore won his performance in the bareback riding competition (74) while Blunt’s Lucas Yellow Hawk was second in his performance (69).

Boys cutting: 9. Braden Routier, Buffalo, 139.

Goat tying: Brylee Grubb, Spearfish, 7.11.

Team roping: 6. Drew Harper, Faith and Sern Weishaar, Belle Fourche. 18.91. 

The short-go from the National High School Finals Rodeo begins at 7:00 p.m. MST. South Dakota has three athletes that enter that short-go top ranked in their respective events.

Bareback riding: 1. Kashton Ford, Sturgis, 157; 7. Devon Moore, Clear Lake, 144.

Goat tying: 3. Brylee Grubb, Spearfish, 14.95; 9. Mataya Ward, Fruitdale, 15.38; 17. Landry Haugen, Sturgis, 16.13. 

Pole bending: 11. Sophie, Hruby, Hemingford, Neb. 40.803. 

Saddle Bronc: 1. Eastan West, New Underwood, 149; 4. Thayne Elshere, Hereford, 144. 

Steer wrestling: 7. Grey Gilbert, Buffalo, 10.98; 15. Gage Gilbert, Camp Crook, 12.47.
