Tuesday April 8 top track and field performers - Lennox's Bergan Musser opens season in fine fashion
Lennox eighth grader Bergan Musser won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the long jump at Tuesday's Elk Point Jefferson Invitational.

ELK POINT — Lennox eighth grader Bergan Musser opened her season with several very impressive performances at the EPJ Husky Invitational on Tuesday. 

Musser won the 100-meter dash (:12.21), 200-meter dash (:25.11) and long jump (18-02). The 200-meter dash and long jump performances were both personal bests. 

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 will go down as one of the greatest days in the boys triple jump in South Dakota history. Just hours after Custer’s Kincade Lehman broke the state record in the triple jump (48-7.25), Brandon Valley Mach Mayen had the third best jump in state history. Mayen jumped (47-5) at Tuesday’s O’Gorman quadrangular..

At Tuesday’s EPJ Invitational Elk Point-Jefferson’s Bentlee Kolbaum equalled her personal best in the javelin (132-5) which is the No. 4 throw in South Dakota history. The state record in the girls javelin is (138-06) by Rapid City Stevens thrower Brynn Nelson in 2024. 

Another top-10 performer Tuesday came from Harrisburg senior Carson Stiff who tossed the discus (191-5), the No. 7 performance in South Dakota history.

Other top performers: 

  • Dakota Valley freshman Alex McCullough won the 800-meter run (2:19.89) and 3,200-meter run (11:24.55) at Tuesday’s EPJ meet. 

  • Viborg-Hurley’s Jacob Graves won the 110-hurdles (:15.74) and 300-meter hurdles (:42.61) at Tuesday’s Gary Pepper Memorial meet in Scotland. 

  • Centerville’s Alec Austin won the discus (157-07) at Tuesday’s meet in Scotland. 

  • Shane Veenhof, Madison won the 110-meter hurdles (:14.78) at the Barnes-Evans meet in Flandreau. 

  • Sioux Valley won the 1,600-meter relay (3:31.16) and sprint medley relay (3:44.28) at Tuesday’s meet in Flandreau. 

  • Flandreau’s Faith Wiese won the 1,600-meter run (5:12.09) at Tuesday’s meet in Flandreau. 

  • The Parker girls (Emma Tuschen, Mallory Mitzner, Jenna Van Velzen, Braelyn Berens) won the 800-meter relay at Tuesday’s meet in Flandreau. 

  • Harrisburg junior Jase Thiesse won the 100-meter dash (:10.67) at Thursday’s Harrisburg quadrangular.

  • O’Gorman’s Julia Eggert won the 400-meter dash (:57.26) at the O’Gorman quadrangular. 

  • Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters won the 3,200-meter run (9:30.61) at the O’Gorman quadrangular. 

  • Brandon Valley’s Jayaunna Stroh winning the high jump (5-06) at the O’Gorman quadrangular.
