Brandon Valley is projected to score 199 points at the Class A state meet ahead of Sturgis (151) and Watertown (140). Pierre (138) and Harrisburg (107) round out the top-five in the final Class A wrestling rankings of the season. 

Keep an eye on the 106-pound bracket as we head through regionals and state. On Feb. 9, this week’s Wrestler of the Week Brendon Oehme of Brandon Valley beat then No. 1 Gage Lohr of Watertown in sudden victory during a dual match. Lohr dropped to No. 3 this week, Oehme is now ranked No. 2 and the new No. 1 ranked wrestler is Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Aiden Wells (106). 

It is not often we see wrestlers in the upper weights ranked when they are still in middle school. A couple of guys to keep an eye on in the 182-pound bracket are Aberdeen Central eighth-grader Cole Dunlavy, ranked No. 7 in this week’s poll. Also making his debut in the 2023 rankings in the same weight class is Brandon Valley freshman Elijah Schunke who is in the honorable mention category this week. 

Brandon Valley senior Alex Mentzer (138) eclipsed 250 career wins during dual action last week for the Lynx.
