 Milbank track teams sweep titles at Northeast Conference meet

SISSETON — The Milbank boys won the Northeast Conference track title scoring 192 points, ahead of Webster Area (129) and Aberdeen Roncalli (94). Deuel (90.5) and Hamlin (87) rounded out the top five teams.

The Milbank girls easily won the conference team title scoring 177 points, ahead of Groton Area (137) and Deuel (91.5). Clark/Willow Lake (90) and Webster Area (73.5) rounded out the top five teams. 

In girls action, Milbank’s Siera Wenzl won the 100-meter dash (:12.92), 200-meter dash (27.79), and 400-meter dash (1:01.06). Milbank also got wins from Ella Koplin in the 800-meter run (2:34.08). Ashlynn Batchelor finished second in the 1,600-meter run (5:27.54), second in the 3,200-meter run (12:01.91) and anchored the first place 3,200-meter relay (9:59.81).

The Milbank foursome of Ella Koplin, Zayda Townsend, Bree Townsend and Siera Wenzl won the 1,600-meter run (4:16.17).

Groton Area’s McKenna Tietz finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (:17.19) and won the 300-meter hurdles (:51.98). Groton Area was very strong in the relays finishing second in the 800-meter relay (1:52.55), second in the 1,600-meter relay (4:17.94) and second in the 3,200-meter relay (10:01.47). Emma Kutter won the javelin (87-10)

Clark/Willow Lake eighth-grader Kamryn Nesheim won the 1,600-meter run (5:09.07) and anchored the sprint medley relay to a win (4:24.04). Clark/Willow Lake won the 800-meter relay (1:52.52) and seventh-grader Shelby Begeman won the high jump (5-0)

Sisseton’s Chloe Langager won the shot put (36-1) and discus (102-11).

The Milbank boys had a very strong day in the distance events with Payton Brown winning the 800-meter run (1:56.76) and 1,600-meter run (4:38.50). Teammate James Batchelor captured the 3,200-meter run (10:06.41). Emmett Hanson won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.72) and 300-meter hurdles (:42.16) and finished third in the 200-meter dash (:24.16). Milbank captured the 1600-meter relay (3:34.55) and got a win from Jayden Johnson in the pole vault (12-9). Samuel Rick won the long jump (20-5.5) and triple jump (40-9.75)

Hamlin’s Zac VanMeeteren won the 100-meter dash (:11.33), 200-meter dash (:22.87) and 400-meter dash (:52.14) and ran a leg on the winning 400-meter relay team (:45.57). Hamlin’s Cristhian Rodriguez won the discus (152-0) and javelin (156-11).

Webster Area won the 800-meter relay (1:32.71) and finished second in the 1,600-meter relay (3:35.59). 

The Groton Area foursome of Lane Tietz, Colby Dunker, Keegen Tracy and Blake Pauli won the sprint medley relay (3:46.90).
