Freeman Blacksox 19, Burke Bombers 4 (5 innings)

BRANDON — Freeman racked up 20 hits en route to a Class B amateur baseball tournament win on Sunday. 

Freeman’s Bailey Sage totaled five hits and drove in six runs. Rocky Ammann recorded four hits and drove in three runs. Jackson Fiegen added four hits and drove in three runs. Avery Mellman and Riley Tschetter had three hits apiece. Mellman drove in four runs and Tschetter knocked in two runs. Mellman had a home run. Doug Hall struck out four batters, allowed five hits, four earned runs and walked three batters in four innings for the win. 

For Burke, Dan Jons totaled two hits and drove in a run. Gannon Thomas smacked a two-run homer. Tarell Bauld took the loss, allowing six hits, four earned runs and struck out one batter in 1.1 innings. 


Dell Rapids Mudcats 7, Winner/Colome Pheasants 2

BRANDON — Grant Olson and Jake Goble hammered home runs as the Dell Rapids Mudcats knocked off Winner/Colome in the opening round of the Class B amateur baseball tournament on Sunday.

Olson finished 2-for-4 and smacked a solo home run, while Goble crushed a two-run homer. Ty Hoglund finished 4-for-5. Carter Gullickson and Chad Hunt drove in runs. Reece Arbogast struck out four batters, allowed nine hits, two earned runs and walked one batter in six innings for the win.

For Winner/Colome, Drew DeMers and Dillon Lambley had three hits apiece. Derek Graesser and Jason Schmidt had two hits apiece. Schmidt drove in a run. Austin Calhoon drove in a run. Graesser took the loss, allowing six hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out two batters in four innings. 


Alexandria Angels 6, Parkston Mudcats 5

BRANDON — Bradley Dean’s walk-off single pushed Alexandria into the Class B state quarterfinals over the Parkston Mudcats Sunday.

Dean (Mount Vernon pick-up player) finished with one hit, one RBI and two walks, Pierce Smith launched a two-run homer while Ben Wilber batted 2-for-2 with a three-run homer in his second career amateur at-bat. Michael Schoettmer had two hits in the win as well. Alex Ferrin took the win on the mound in one inning of relief.

For the Mudcats, Braxton Wilhelm took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk in two innings. Chase Hetland (Mount Vernon pick-up player) had two hits, a walk and two RBIs, Kaleb Weber drove in a run on a hit and a walk, Luke Bormann tallied two hits, a walk and an RBI, Jeff Harris added three hits, two doubles, and two walks, while Max Scott had an RBI on a walk in the loss.

 

Canova Gang 6, Garretson Bluejays 1

BRANDON — Derek Miller struck out nine batters in a complete-game performance in a Class B amateur baseball tournament win on Sunday.

Miller allowed eight hits, one earned run and walked three batters on 123 pitches. 

Jared Miller finished with two hits and drove in a run. Garrett Gassman knocked in two runs, while Kendall Gassman added an RBI. Luke Koepsell had a hit.

For Garretson, Brady Bonte had two of the team’s eight hits. Robin Chute, Brett Fischer, Sam Siegel, Trey Buckneberg, Scott Splett and Jesse Brockhouse had hits. Dylan Kindt took the loss, allowing two hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out five batters in five innings.
