Aug. 3 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Madison racks up 12 hits in win over Gold Sox

Madison Broncos 6, Plankinton Gold Sox 2

MITCHELL — Madison used a three-run fourth inning to secure a Class B state amateur baseball tourney win over Plankinton Gold Sox on Wednesday at Cadwell Park. 

Madison racked up 12 hits, including three by Heith Williams. Mitch McNary, Greg Biagi, Aspen Dahl and Ty Jorgenson had two hits apiece. Josh Giles drove in two runs, while McNary and Dahl each drove in runs. 

Tyler Tappe earned the win, striking out six batters, allowing six hits, one earned run and walking five batters in his 7.1-inning start. 

For the Gold Sox, Sean DeVries finished with two hits in their first-ever state tourney game. Andrew Becker, Griffin Tobin, Dakota Munger, Tom Harris and Devin Mehlhaff each had a hit. Ryland DeVries took the loss, giving up four hits, three earned runs, five walks and striking out four batters in his four-inning start. 

Madison plays Garretson on Sunday in the next round.

Garretson Bluejays 13, Plankinton Bankers 0 (7 innings)

MITCHELL — Aaron LaBrie struck out 13 batters and threw a six-hit shutout in Garretson’s Class B state tournament win over Plankinton Bankers on Wednesday at Cadwell Park. 

LaBrie issued zero walks through 109 pitches. Offensively, Dustin Steckler and Scott Splett had three hits and two RBI apiece. Joey Fitzgerald and Nick Bonte had two hits and an RBI apiece. Austin Vanhove, Tayson Swatek and Jesse Brockhouse each had added hits. 

For Plankinton, Cole Knippling had two of the team’s six hits. Alex Loes, Travis Gant, Trevor Boyd and Preston Kristensen each had a hit. Gant took the loss after giving up eight hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out four batters in his four-inning start. 

Garretson plays Madison in the next round on Sunday.
