Aug. 1 Legion Baseball Roundup - Gregory, Vermillion earn wins at Class B Legion tournament

Gregory Post 6 9, Winner/Colome Post 169 3

GREGORY — Gregory Post 6 pulled away from Winner/Colome Post 169 for a win at the Class B Legion baseball tournament on Monday. Gregory will play Vermillion at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the winner playing Winner/Colome in the championship game. 

Noah Bearshield led Gregory on the hill, allowing three hits and three runs in seven innings, while striking out four.

Gregory recorded 10 hits, with Gunnar Stephens leading the way with three hits in four at bats. Rylan Peck and Gannon Thomas each tallied two hits, while Thomas led with two RBI. Trey Murray, Kade Braun, and Sawyer Tietgen each added one RBI.

Landon Calhoon took the loss for Winner/Colome, giving up five runs on five hits, along with two strikeouts in 3 ⅓ innings.

Aiden Barfuss, Ashton Klein, and Ethan Bartels had one hit apiece to lead Winner/Colome, while Barfuss, Klein, and Pierce Nelson drove in one run each. Barfuss also had a home run in the fourth inning.


Vermillion Post 1 13, Redfield Post 92 2

GREGORY — Vermillion Post 1 raced past Redfield Post 92 for a win at the Class B Legion baseball tournament on Monday. Vermillion will play Gregory at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the winner playing Winner/Colome in the championship game.

Ben Burbach led Vermillion to the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two runs, while finishing with 11 strikeouts in seven innings.

Clayton Sorenson led Vermillion with four hits in four at bats and four RBI, while Connor Saunders tallied three hits. Burbach and Jake Jensen added two hits and two RBI apiece, while Charlie Ward, T.J. Tracy, and Reece Proefrock added one RBI each. Ward led the team with four stolen bases as Vermillion stole 12 bases as a team.

Nolan Gall took the loss for Redfield, giving up seven runs on seven hits in 5 ⅓ innings, while striking out two.

Camden Osborn led Redfield in hits, going 2-for-2 at the plate, along with one RBI.
