Bareback riders propel Team South Dakota to third place boys finish at Junior High National Finals Rodeo

PERRY, Ga. — All week long St. Charles’ Taos Weborg and Highmore’s Talon Ping have been putting on a show at the Junior High National Finals Rodeo in Georgia. When the dust had cleared after Sunday’s short, go-round South Dakota found themselves with a world champion and a third-place finish in the bareback riding. 

Weborg won the first go-round (80.5), finished fourth in the second-go (70.5) and was third in the short-go (68.5). Ping had rides of 73.5, 70.5 and a short-go winning score of 70.5. 

Final Bareback Standings:

1. (SD) Taos Weborg, St. Charles, S.D., 220

2. (AB) Quaide Skjonsberg, Bluffton, Alb., 219

3. (SD) Talon Ping, Highmore, S.D., 211.5

4. (NE) Kanin Heath, Minden, Neb., 199

5. (IL) Stetson Cornman, Herrin, Ill., 198

Those same two athletes made the short-go in bull riding with Ping finishing 12th (133.5) and Weborg finishing 17th (124).

Boys Goat Tying: 5. Walker West, Pierre, 31.45; 17. Cayne Merrill, Wall, 36.05.

Boys Breakaway Roping: 20. Kanton Hunt, Ridgeview, 12.18. 

Chute Doggin: Talon Krowlikowski, Martin, 13.54.

Goat Tying: 16. Tiersyn Grubb, Spearfish, 22

Saddle Bronc Riding: Talon Krowlikoski, Martin, 177.

Team Roping: 5. Sern Weishaar, Belle Fourche/Slone Weishaar, Belle Fourche, 50.56; 9. Brand Hilgenkamp, Wall/Casper Hammerstrom, New Underwood, 17.1

Tie-down Roping: Hayes Burress, Isabel, 37.89. 

A very strong showing for the boys team (4,645) which finished third behind Texas (8,805) and New Mexico (5,020).
