Colman-Egan girls clip 47-year-old meet record at Howard Wood Dakota Relays, nine total records fall on Day 2

SIOUX FALLS — Another nine meet records fell during the second day of the 101st Howard Wood Dakota Relays.

The Colman-Egan girls broke a 47-year-old meet record in the Class B girls 1,600-meter relay with the quartet of Finley Luze, Crystal Silva-Dominguez, Brynlee Landis and Jolie Flatten with a time of 4:03.74.

The mark breaks the previous meet record set by Burke in 1978 with a time of 4:03.94.

Custer’s Tenlee Stiefel broke a meet record in the pole vault event with a mark of 13-01, beating out her older sister Ciana’s record of 12-09 set in 2024. Tenlee’s mark on Saturday is a new personal best, and the 15th highest in the country this year.

Rapid City Stevens’ Maya Khachikian, Riley Willet, Ava Holzwarth and Ella Bradeen broke the Class AA girls 400-meter relay meet record with a time of :47.54, breaking the previous mark set by the same group a year ago and Fargo Davies (N.D.) in 2017 with a mark of :48.33.

The Sioux Falls Christian girls team broke four different meet records on Saturday, starting with Halle Braun’s all-time state record time in the 300-meter hurdles (:42.58). The previous mark was set by Kelsie Belquist of New Rockford-Sheyenne (N.D.) in 2023 with a time of :42.87. The state mark was set in 1993 by Rapid City Central’s Anne Vollmer with a time of :42.66.

Ellie Maddox broke a meet record in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:46.95, beating out O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli’s time of 4:48.95 set last year.

SFC’s 1,600-meter relay team of Natalie Smith, Sadie Pettengill, Ellie Maddox and Halle Braun broke the Class A meet record with a time of 3:58.87, beating out the previous record (3:59.63) set by the Chargers last season.

The Chargers’ Autumn Aukes, Emory Lems, Smith and Pettengill combined to break the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay as well with a time of 4:10.71. That mark broke the previous record of 4:10.76 set by Flandreau in 2025.

The Class B boys 1,600-meter relay meet record was also beaten by George Little Rock’s (Iowa) Cash Sandbulte, Gavin Bruns, Austin Landis and Zach Anderson with a time of 3:27.65. The quartet beat out Colman-Egan’s time of 3:29.06 set in 2017.

Sioux Falls Lincoln’s boys 1,600-meter relay team of Javon Haukaas, Isaac Herrboldt, Zyan Conrad and Evan Abild closed out the Howard Wood Dakota Relays with a meet record time of 3:16.20. The previous mark (3:18.80) was set by Lincoln last season.
