Burke girls, Gregory boys capture team titles at Avon Last Chance Meet

AVON — The Burke girls and Gregory boys coasted to team titles at Thursday’s Avon Last Chance Meet. 

The Burke girls recorded 180 points, finishing ahead of Wessington Springs (64) and Avon (62). The Gregory boys tallied 172 points, finishing ahead of Wessington Springs (102.5) and Avon (71). 

In girls action, Burke’s Braelyn Deurfeldt won the 100-meter dash (13.46), Kailee Frank took the 1,600-meter race (5:38.70), and Sophia Bauld claimed the 3,200-meter run (12:24.91). In field events, Paige Bull won both shot put (38-05.50) and discus (135-01). Emily Diekmann claimed the high jump event (5-02) while Daytona Paris took the triple jump event (33-02.25). In relays, Paris, Breckynn Pistulka, Addi Hood and Duerfeldt won the 400-meter relay (51.71). Duerfeldt, Diekmann, Pistulka and Hood claimed the 800-meter relay (1:47.20). Diekmann, Breckynn Pistulka, Brylie Pistulka and Hood took the 1,600-meter relay (4:14.17), while Grace Steffen, Shy Williams, Taylor Zeisler and Haley Baas won the 3,200-meter relay (11:47.98).

Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s Josie Brouwer won the 200-meter dash (27.92) and the 300-meter hurdles (49.55).

Corsica-Stickney’s Hadynn Johnson won the 400-meter dash (1:01.05) and Braylee Bordewyk won the 800-meter race (2:22.39).

Avon’s Lila Vanderlei won the javelin throw (117-04).

Wessington Springs’ Bailey Yost took the 100-meter hurdles race (17.46).

Gregory’s Dani VanDerWerff, Regan Graesser, Adelyn Veskrna and Asia VanDerWerff won the sprint medley relay (4:34.03). Graesser won the long jump event (15-04.75) for the Gorillas as well.

In boys action, Gregory’s Landon Keiser won the 200-meter dash (23.83). Pierce Stukel took the 400-meter dash (52.92). Finn Adams claimed the 800-meter run (2:02.65). Luke Barreto won the 1,600-meter run (4:41.85) and Colt Keiser took the 300-meter hurdles (43.54) and the high jump event (6-00). Jhett Eklund won the triple jump (39-11) as well. In relays, Adams, Max Cook, Keiser and Stukel won the 1,600-meter relay (3:38.64).

Avon’s Al’Shamon Gunter won the shot put (44-1.50) and the discus event (141-03). Aziah Meyer won the long jump event (21-05) for the Pirates as well.

Bon Homme’s Mason Jolley earned the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles (18.62) while Cale Cooper won the 3,200-meter race (11:13.47).

ACDC’s Sabas DeHaan won the 100-meter dash while Hunter Loeffler, AJ Johnson, Jamian Medicine Horn and DeHaan won the sprint medley relay (3:51.49).

Wessington Springs’ Hayes Havlik, Will Grohs, Sam Poncelow and Karter Mebius won the 800-meter relay (1:37.41) while Richard Cardona, Carson Finn, Poncelow and Mebius took the 3,200-meter relay (8:58.24).

Corsica-Stickney’s Driftin Mulder won the javelin throw (169-05).

Burke’s quartet of Gentry Bartling, Cason Wendell, Kaleb Schonebaum and Elijah Bartling won the 400-meter relay (46.38).
