Canova walks off Larchwood, moves onto Class B semifinals

MITCHELL — Riley Genzlinger’s walk-off hit capped off Canova’s rally from a six-run deficit on Friday. 

Genzlinger’s single into center field scored the game-winning run, lifting Canova into the Class B semifinals at Cadwell Park. 

Canova trailed 6-0 after four innings, but scored seven unanswered runs to rally past Larchwood, Iowa. 

Tim Gassman finished 3 of 3, while Canova’s Jason Miller had two hits and drove in two runs. Garrett Gassman, Derek Miller, Cole Gassman and Jared Miller each had hits. Jared Miller drove in two runs, while Trey Krier and Cole Gassman added RBIs. 

Kendall Gassman pitched a complete-game performance, finishing with six earned runs on 12 hits and struck out six batters. 

For Larchwood, Micah Linn, Cody Groskruetz, Scott Erickson, Nick Bonte and Brent Ripperda each had two hits. Groskruetz drove in two runs, while Linn, Erickson, Ripperda and Gavin Lorenzen each drove in runs. Korey McKenney took the loss after allowing one earned run on two hits and struck out one batter in one relief inning. Starter Brian Wede lasted six innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and struck out three batters.
