Carter Kendrick earns All-American honors at USA Wrestling National Championships

FARGO, N.D. — A brilliant day of wrestling in the 16U Greco Roman wrestling competition at the USA Wrestling National Championships for Beresford’s Carter Kendrick. 

Kendrick, wrestling in the 88-pound weight class opened Wednesday’s competition with a 4-3 win over Minnesota’s Eli Schultz. In the second round Kendrick ran into a buzz saw, losing 9-1 to Christopher Swann of Georgia. The young man whose family lives between Wanblee and Kadoka then won four consecutive matches to guarantee the All-American finish. 

In his last match Wednesday, Kendrick lost to the Georgia athlete, 10-2. He will wrestle for 5th place today in Fargo. 

Watertown's Micah Hach and Brandon Valley's Trevon Oehme also competed in the 16U greco roman tournament.

The girls junior freestyle tournament wrapped up Wednesday with two South Dakota athletes earning All-American honors. Spearfish’s Taylor Fierbach-Graveman finished 5th in the 132-pound weight class. Canton’s Zoe Adam capped off a spectacular tournament with all-american honors and 8th place in the 200-pound weight class.
