Chester's Emery Larson claims Region 2B girls race, Arlington sweeps team titles

ARLINGTON — Chester distance ace Emery Larson claimed the girls Region 2B cross-country race on Wednesday. 

Individually, Chester’s Emery Larson easily captured the 5,000-meter run at Lake Region Golf Course in 18 minutes and :32.33 seconds. Arlington’s Kaelyn Ulschmid (19:51.61) and Emarie Vincent (20:43.91) were second and third, respectively. Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Elizabeth Vogel (20:46.98) and Gayville-Volin’s Jolie Westrum (20:48.71) rounded out the top-five runners. 

On the boys side, Howard’s Caden Schwader (17:52.22) was the individual winner. McCrossan’s Ethan Hartung (18:28.36) and Arlington’s Lance Kaufmann (18:40.34) finished second and third, respectively. Gayville-Volin’s Will Pirak (18:40.70) and McCrossan’s Jason Brave (18:48.30) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Arlington captured titles at the Region 2B meet. The Arlington boys won the region title with 24 points, finishing ahead of McCrossan (33) and Chester (34). De Smet and Gayville-Volin scored 45 points apiece, tying for fourth place. 

Arlington girls won the region title with 12 points, finishing ahead of Dell Rapids St. Mary and Chester, both with 27 points. Centerville (40) and De Smet (58) rounded out the top-five teams.
