Cheyenne-Eagle Butte takes the Lakota Nation Invitational boys cross-country title

RAPID CITY — Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Jayden Taken Alive and Jackson Taken Alive powered the Braves to the team title at Saturday’s Lakota Nation Invitational cross-country title. 

Jayden Taken Alive won the 5,000-meter run at Hart Ranch, covering the distance in 16 minutes and :32.99 seconds. Jackson Taken Alive placed second in 16:55.24. The Braves won the team title with 14 points, finishing ahead of Wyoming Indian (31) and White River (66). 

White River’s Elijah Haukaas (17:07.50) and Lakota Tech’s Rylan Cuny (17:12.09) placed third and fourth, respectively. CEB’s Xavier Sanchez-Gonzalez (17:15.68) placed fifth.

Standing Rock, North Dakota’s Briauna Thompson (20:03.19) won the girls race. Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis (20:21.27) and Standing Rock’s Evie Bradley (20:34.61) finished second and third, respectively. Mahpiya Luta’s Tahca Zephier (21:18.06) and Mahpiya Luta’s Ashlan Carlow-Blount (21:36.21) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Mahpiya Luta girls won the team title with 30 points, ahead of Wyoming Indian (43) and Standing Rock (44).
