Class A Roundup - St. Thomas More edges Flandreau with late basket
St Thomas More’s Ian Clewley and Flandreau’s Chase LeBrun battle for a rebound during the first half of the Class A third-place game Saturday night at the Summit Arena in Rapid City. St. Thomas More went on to edge Flandreau 43-42.

St. Thomas More 43, Flandreau 42

RAPID CITY — Cade Kandolin drilled a 15-foot jump shot with 12 seconds remaining to lift St. Thomas More to a win over Flandreau and third place in the 2022 Class A state tournament. 

Kandolin sparked a second-half comeback with a 20 points, three rebound, three assist performance. Caleb Hollenbeck reached double-figures with 12 points. Ian Clewley added five for the Cavaliers. 

Flandreau was led by Liam Strietz led Flandreau with 13 points while Chase LeBrun added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. 

Tash Lunday added 11 points and nine rebounds. The senior finished his career with 2,021 points which places him 40th among South Dakota’s all time leading prep basketball players.

 

Groton Area 66, Lakota Tech 57

RAPID CITY — Groton Area erased an early 8-0 deficit to pick up a win in the seventh place game at the Class A state tournament in Rapid City Saturday. 

A well rounded effort for the Tigers as four players reached double-figures led by sophomore Lane Tietz’s 16 points. Jayden Zak contributed 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kaden Kurtz added 12 points while Tate Larson scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. 

Triston LeBeau wrapped up his Lakota Tech career with 24 points and eight rebounds. Beau Donovan added 13 points and four assists. Marvin Richard III scored 11 points while Jordan Whirlwind Horse added four points and 10 rebounds for the Tatanka who finished eighth in the 2022 Class A state tournament. 


Sioux Falls Christian 67, Winner 54

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Christian had four players reach double-figures as the Chargers earned the fifth place trophy with a win Saturday at the Class A state tournament. 

Ethan Bruns finished with 17 points while snaring 13 rebounds. Brooks Nelson also had 17 points for Sioux Falls Christian. Nathan Koole added 13 points and four rebounds. Jaden Witte had ten points and five rebounds for the Chargers. 

Blake Volmer wrapped up his junior season with a 17 point, six rebound effort to lead the Warriors. Slade Cournoyer added 16 points while grabbing four rebounds.
