Class B Roundup - Lower Brule edges Castlewood in OT

Lower Brule 51, Castlewood 48 (OT)

ABERDEEN — No. 2 seed Lower Brule outlasted No. 7 seed Castlewood in overtime at the Class B tournament on Thursday.

The Sioux were led by Keshaume Thigh with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Gavin Thigh tallied nine points and four steals. Lane Gray scored seven points, while Brian LaRoche, Jr. and Ellwyn Langdeau each added five points. Langdeau also grabbed six boards.

Lower Brule advances to the semifinals and will play White River at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.

Castlewood was led by Tristan Nielsen with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Lane Tvedt scored 12 points and Bryon Laue added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors will play Freeman Academy/Marion in the consolation semifinals at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.


White River 75, Freeman Academy/Marion 70

ABERDEEN — Behind 31 second half points from Joe Sayler, No. 3 seed White River outlasted No. 6 Freeman Academy/Marion in the opening round of the Class B tournament on Thursday.

Sayler finished with 43 points, breaking Louie Krogman’s first round scoring record of 40 points in 2007. Sayler also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Kendrell Cuevas tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, while Dylan Marshall and Nic Marshall each scored nine points. Dylan Marshall also grabbed eight rebounds.

White River will play Lower Brule in the semifinals at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.

Freeman Academy/Marion was led by Connor Epp with 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Matthew Hagen tallied 13 points, while Thalen Schroeder scored 12 points and nine rebounds. Donte Butler added nine points.

The Bearcats will play Castlewood in the consolation semifinals at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.


De Smet 60, Waubay/Summit 28

ABERDEEN — Top-seeded De Smet cruised to an opening round victory against No. 8 seed Waubay/Summit at the Class B state tournament on Thursday.

The Bulldogs were led by Damon Wilkinson with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Kalen Garry tallied 10 points and four assists. Rett Osthus scored nine points and dished out three assists, while Tory Holland and Kadyn Fast each added eight points and eight rebounds apiece.

De Smet advances to the semifinals where they will play No. 4 seed Potter County at 6 p.m. on Friday.

The Mustangs were led by Damon Opdahl and Jonathan Johnston with eight points each. Johnston added seven rebounds. J. Gulbraa scored five points and three steals.

Waubay/Summit will play in the consolation semifinals against Aberdeen Christian at noon on Friday.


Potter County 63, Aberdeen Christian 48

ABERDEEN — No. 4 seed Potter County pulled away from No. 5 seed Aberdeen Christian in the opening round of the Class B state tournament on Thursday.

Potter County was led by Grant Luikens with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Drake Bassett recorded 20 points. Cooper Logan tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals, while Seth Sharp added seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Battlers will advance to the semifinals and play No. 1 De Smet at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Aberdeen Christian was led by Jackson Isakson and Ethan Russell with 14 points apiece. Russell also grabbed 12 rebounds. Malek Wieker scored 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Kaden Clark added six points and four assists.

The Knights will play Waubay/Summit in the consolation semifinals at noon on Friday.
