Boys basketball

Ethan 50, Hanson 49

ALEXANDRIA — Rylan Gerlach hit a field goal with 7 seconds left to lift Ethan to a boys basketball win over Hanson on Friday. 

Ethan’s Drake Gustafson and Riley Endres scored 10 points apiece. 

Hanson’s Jackson Jarding tossed in 19 points, while Jayce Slaba added 14 points. Ethan Cheeseman recorded 11 points and 15 rebounds. 


 

White River 88, Jones County 44

MURDO — Class B No. 1 White River picked up a 44-point boys basketball win over Jones County on Friday.

White River’s Joe Sayler poured in 37 points, hit seven 3-pointers, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out three assists. Nic Marshall added 21 points, nine steals and six assists. Gavin Folkers logged 10 points and four rebounds. 

Jones County’s Cooper Fedderson recorded 27 points and six rebounds. 


Mitchell 75, Huron 57

HURON — Three players scored in double figures to lift Mitchell to a Friday boys basketball win over Huron. 

Colton Smith logged 20 points, five rebounds and four steals. Dylan Soulek added 14 points, while Steele Morgan posted 12 points. Markus Talley recorded eight points, while Aiden Myers registered six points and five rebounds. Gavin Soukup and Charlie McCardle scored five points apiece, while McCardle grabbed five rebounds. 

Huron’s Blake Ellwein and Reilyn Zavesky scored 14 points apiece. Mason Davis and Dawsyn Rogers scored six points apiece. C.J. Gainey added five points. 


Pierre 59, Rapid City Stevens 41

PIERRE — Class AA No. 5 Pierre picked up a season-opening boys basketball win over Rapid City Stevens on Friday.

Pierre’s Lincoln Kienholz netted a game-high 18 points, while Carson Ahartz, Jackson Edman and Benjamin Heisler scored nine points apiece. Christian Busch scored eight points. 

Stevens’ Dayler Segrist and Madinko Hawley scored 12 points apiece. Caden Dowling added nine points. 

 

McLaughlin 49, Herreid/Selby Area 36

HERREID — McLaughlin outscored Herreid/Selby Area 10-3 in the fourth quarter to secure a boys basketball win on Friday.

McLaughlin’s Elias Sims netted 21 points, while Raymin Yellow Earrings logged 10 points. Jre Antelope and Renzo Bull Head scored eight and five points, respectively. 

HSA’s Tray Hettick tossed in 12 points, while Brenden Begeman scored 11 points.


Deuel 69, Florence/Henry 48

DEUEL — Deuel used a 20-4 fourth-quarter run to earn a win over Florence/Henry in high school boys basketball action Friday. 

Deuel was fueled by Gavin Benck who led the way with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Trey Maaland scored 18 points while dishing out four assists and picking up five steals. Ronnie Begalka and Braydon Simon combined for 15 points for Deuel. 

Florence/Henry had three players reach double-figures led by Ty Bergh with 16 points. Tayton Roe and Mehki Keller each scored 11 points for the Falcons. 


Sioux Falls Lincoln 60, Sioux Falls Washington 56

SIOUX FALLS — Three players scored in double figures to lift Class AA No. 3 Sioux Falls Lincoln to a boys basketball win over Sioux Falls Washington on Friday. 

J.T. Rock and Tate Schafer scored 15 points apiece. Rock added six rebounds and seven blocked shots. Elliot Whitney netted 14 points and dished out four assists. Jack Hilgenberg added seven points, seven steals and four assists. 

Washington’s Mandalla Mohamed logged 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. A.J. Akot and Kael Miedema had nine points apiece. Akot added seven rebounds, while Miedema had five rebounds. Cole Peterson finished with eight points and four rebounds, while Zharic Sheppard added five points and five rebounds. 

 

Hamlin 69, Groton Area 57

HAYTI — Four players scored in double figures to lift Hamlin to a boys basketball win over Groton Area on Friday.

Easton Neuendorf finished with 20 points, while Brennan Keszler netted 18 points. Tyson Stevenson recorded 15 points and Zac VanMeeteren logged 12 points. 

Groton Area’s Lane Tietz finished with 31 points and finished a perfect 12 of 12 from the free-throw line. Tate Larson scored nine points and Jacob Zak added seven points.


Redfield 54, Aberdeen Roncalli 52

ABERDEEN — Redfield edged Aberdeen Roncalli in Friday high school boys basketball action. 

Redfield’s Jerron Haider finished with 22 points, while Mitchell Mack added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Akin logged nine points. 

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Maddox Miller finished with 25 points, while Darwin Gambler scored 17 points.


South Sioux City, Neb., 62, Vermillion 50

VERMILLION — South Sioux City, Nebraska, topped Vermillion in Friday high school boys basketball action. 

Vermillion’s Zoan Robinson finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Carter Hansen scored 12 points. 

 

Viborg-Hurley 64, Freeman 34

FREEMAN — Viborg-Hurley raced past Freeman for a boys basketball win on Friday.

Viborg-Hurley’s Gage Goettertz led with 15 points and five assists, while Kobee Sherman, Nick Hansen, and Bryson Morrison each tallied 12 points. Rafe Goettertz added seven rebounds.

Freeman’s Rocky Ammann led with 12 points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Tate Sorensen added eight points and four rebounds.



Girls basketball

Mitchell 46, Huron 44

HURON — Addie Siemsen hit a buzzer beater to lift Mitchell to a girls basketball win over Huron on Friday. 

Mitchell was led by Taylor Giblin who finished with 13 points, four rebounds and an assist. Lauren Van Overschelde and Sawyer Stoebner scored 10 points apiece, while Stoebner grabbed seven rebounds. Allison Meyerink and Carsyn Weich scored five and four points, respectively. Siemsen’s field goal was her lone points of the night. 

Huron had a trio of double-figure scorers led by Isabelle Ellwein with 14. Hamtyn Heinz (12) and Heavan Gainey (10) combined for 22 points. 


Viborg-Hurley 60, Freeman 44

FREEMAN — Class B No. 1 Viborg-Hurley earned a win over Freeman in high school girls basketball action Friday. 

Viborg-Hurley was led by Coral Mason who finished with 28 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. Estelle Lee had 12 points and six rebounds. Denae Mach had eight points while Shelby Lyons and Charley Nelson each had six points. 

Erin Uecker led Freeman with 15 points while Peyton McCune scored 11 points. Ashlin Jacobsen (7) and Kate Miller (6) rounded out the scoring for Freeman. 


Alcester-Hudson 42, Gayville-Volin 38

ALCESTER — Alcester-Hudon outscored Gayville-Volin 17-12 in the final quarter to earn a home win Friday in girls basketball action. 

Elly Doering led the Cubs with 25 points and 14 rebounds. 

Keely Larson led Gayville-Volin with 19 points. 


De Smet 48, Deubrook Area 32

DE SMET — Jada Burke logged a double-double to pace De Smet to a girls basketball win over Deubrook Area on Friday.

Burke finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Hazel Luethmers added eight points and seven rebounds. Alyssa Asleson had six points, while Emma Albrecht posted five points and seven rebounds. 

Deubrook Area’s Ellie Koenig had nine points, while Skyla Petersen grabbed eight rebounds.


Avon 64, Marty 63

AVON — Avon held on to earn a win over Marty in girls basketball action Friday night. 

Avon was led by Courtney Sees who finished with 25 points and four assists. Lila Vanderlei scored 20 points for the Pirates with Kaeli Wallinga had five points and nine rebounds. Rilyn Thury added five points and six assists. 

Hawk Bair led Marty with 19 points and added three assists and four steals. Jayla Bruguier had 15 points and nine rebounds. Nevaeh Medicine Horn finished with seven points and six rebounds for Marty. 


Sully Buttes 55, North Central 20

BOWDLE — Sully Buttes had two players reach double-figures as the girls earned a win over North Central in high school basketball action Friday. 

Sully Buttes was led by Lydia Hill with 21 points and Stevie Wittler who had 15 points. Allyson Wittler chipped in seven points with Calleigh Chicoine added five points. 

Alaina Dosch led North Central with eight points while Brittney Frickson scored six points for the Thunder. 


Parkston 56, Tri-Valley 45

PARKSTON — The Parkston girls picked up a season-opening girls basketball win over Tri-Valley on Friday. 

Parkston was led by Faith Oakley who scored a team leading 15 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Lauren Ziebert contributed 10 points, four rebounds and seven assists while Mya Thuringer had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals. Abby Hohn added 10 points and four rebounds for Parkston. 

Tri-Valley was led by Maddy Wenzel who finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Lauren Grinde, Ava Pearson and Mattie Huwe each had eight points for Tri-Valley. 


Tea Area 58, Dakota Valley 26

TEA — Three players scored in double figures to lift Tea Area to a girls basketball win over Dakota Valley on Friday. 

Stella Peterson finished with 16 points and four steals. Mara Grant added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kendra McKinney logged 10 points. Haidyn West recorded six points and four assists. Miah Weber added five points. 

Dakota Valley’s Malina Snoozy finished with eight points, while Cameron Sommervold scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds. Jorja Van Den Hul and Ella Riefenraft had eight and six rebounds, respectively. 

 

Dell Rapids St. Mary 46, Howard 42

DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids St. Mary held off Howard for a girls basketball win on Friday.

Dell Rapids St. Mary was led by Madala Hanson with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Ella Griffin tallied 11 points. Brianna Griffin led with eight rebounds.

Howard’s Kate Connor recorded 17 points and seven rebounds, while Abby Aslesen tallied 15 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals. Rylee Rudebusch added six points and nine rebounds.


Watertown 59, Brookings 54

WATERTOWN — Three players scored in double figures to pace Watertown to a girls basketball win over Brookings on Friday. 

Watertown’s Emery Thury finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Kendall Paulson added 14 points, while Jaida Young logged 10 points and nine rebounds. Maddy Rohde finished with five points. 

Brookings’ Logan Smidt tossed in a game-high 27 points. Sofia Dvergsten and Jaden Devine scored eight points apiece. Sophia Hammrich scored five points.
