Dec. 9 High School Basketball Roundup - Avery Broughton tosses in 30 points to power Corsica-Stickney girls over Chamberlain

Corsica-Stickney 67, Chamberlain 47 

CHAMBERLAIN -- Avery Broughton powered Class B No. 2 Corsica-Stickney to a season-opening girls basketball win over Chamberlain on Thursday.

Broughton logged 30 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Rachel Gerlach added 18 points and seven rebounds. Casey Tolsma contributed 11 points, while Morgan Clites had four points, four rebounds and four assists. Payton DeLange collected eight rebounds. 

Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans finished with 11 points, while Mya Knippling had 10 points. Jayd Chmela added nine points, while Jayna Handel had eight points, five assists and five rebounds. Jayselee Petersen had four points. 


Aberdeen Christian 53, Potter County 38

GETTYSBURG -- Mallory Miller logged a double-double to power Aberdeen Christian to a girls basketball win over Potter County on Thursday.

Miller finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Joy Rohrbach added eight points and four rebounds. Chloe Holt logged six points and three rebounds. The Knights out-rebounded the Battlers by a 33-23 margin. 

Potter County’s Tyler Simon finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Kayden Cronin posted eight points and 12 rebounds. Kirstie Lake contributed five points and eight boards. 


White River 64, Belle Fourche 50 

WHITE RIVER -- Class B No. 3 White River turned a 31-26 halftime deficit into a 14-point girls basketball win over Belle Fourche on Thursday.

Maleighya Estes powered the Tigers with 34 points and 11 rebounds in the season-opening victory. Lilly Krogman and Rhea Tucker added six points apiece. Tana Bear Heels added five points. 


Madison 50, Dell Rapids 40 

MADISON -- Audrey Nelson and Zoey Gerry combined for 39 points to pace Madison to a girls basketball win over Dell Rapids on Thursday. 

Nelson led the way with 20 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. Gerry added 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Karly Lurz logged seven points and four rebounds. 

Dell Rapids’ Zoey Hilmoe posted 14 points, three rebounds and three steals. Jayme Schmidt scored nine points, while Haileigh Barnhart had six points and eight rebounds. 


Flandreau 85, Chester Area 30 

FLANDREAU -- Four players scored in double figures to pace Class A No. 5 Flandreau to a girls basketball victory over Chester Area on Thursday. 

Flandreau’s Bella Pavlis led the way with a game-high 19 points. Claire Sheppard recorded an 18-point and 10-rebound double-double for the Fliers. Lily Klein scored 13 points, while Maria Parsley logged 10 points and seven rebounds. Lizzie Pavlis contributed nine points and nine rebounds. 

Chester Area’s Emery Larson scored 13 points and Emmerson Eppard had 10 points. 


Brandon Valley 70, Sioux Falls O’Gorman 66

SIOUX FALLS -- Hilary Behrens and Kylie Foss combined for 42 points as Class AA No. 3 Brandon Valley edged Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman in girls basketball action on Thursday.

Behrens tossed in 22 points, while Foss followed with 20 points. O’Gorman’s Hannah Ronsiek netted a career-high 33 points. 


Sioux Falls Washington 70, Sioux Falls Lincoln 45

SIOUX FALLS -- Brooklyn Harpe and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda combined for 35 points to power Class AA No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington to a girls basketball win over Sioux Falls Lincoln on Thursday.

Harpe finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mwenentanda recorded 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Taylor Thompson posted eight points and 10 rebounds. Alexus Motley and Hannah Harpe scored seven points apiece. Harpe added five assists and four rebounds. Bianca Meeks and Claire Woods scored five points apiece. 

Lincoln’s Mariah Siem scored 23 points. Kierra Lubivuch added eight points and seven rebounds. Alicen Honner scored six points. 

 

Boys basketball

Elk Point-Jefferson 78, Canton 71

ELK POINT -- Four players scored in double figures to lift Elk Point-Jefferson to a boys basketball win over Canton on Thursday.

Easton Kempf led the Huskies with 22 points and nine rebounds. Chase Fornia logged 19 points and 10 rebounds. Landon Geary added 18 points and seven rebounds. Devon Schmitz chipped in with 11 points. 

Canton’s Jacob Vande Weerd and Matt Anderson had 18 points and seven rebounds apiece. Payton Eben scored 13 points. Derek Tieszen finished with five points and four rebounds.
