A year ago the Burke girls orchestrated points to perfection to win the Class B girls team title.

The Cougars will need to replace points from Piper Hanson (University of Sioux Falls) but the cupboard is not bare for first-year coach Turner Serr.

Individually, Burke returns two state champions in Paige Bull won the discus (145-02) and Emily Diekmann in the high jump (5-02). Senior Kailee Frank anchored Burke’s sprint medley relay team to a third place finish and could score points in the 800-meter run and 1,600-meter run. Other runners like Brylie Pistulka, Breckyn Pistulka and Addi Hood will need to score in individual events for Burke to be in title contention in May.

Arlington returns several standouts that will certainly keep the Cardinals in contention by the time state track rolls around. A year ago, Chloe Raw won the 100-meter dash (:12.04), 200-meter dash (:25.24) and was second in the long jump. Kaelyn Ulschmid was fourth in the 3,200-meter run and fifth in the 1,600-meter run.

With Bennett County moving down to Class B, and with the young talent they have the Warriors are going to be in contention. In Class A, Reagan O’Neill won the 100-meter dash (:11.96), 200-meter dash (:25.25) and long jump (18-04.75). Peyson O’Neill finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles and the Warriors finished second in the 400-meter relay (:49.33).
