Sioux Falls Lincoln girls, Brandon Valley boys hold leads after Day 1 of state track

SIOUX FALLS — The Sioux Falls Lincoln girls and Brandon Valley boys sit atop the team leaderboards after Day 1 of the South Dakota state track and field meet. 

The Sioux Falls Lincoln girls currently have 41.5 points, followed by Brandon Valley (26) and Spearfish (24). The Brandon Valley boys currently have 31 points, followed by Sioux Falls Lincoln (20) and Sioux Falls Washington (18).

Sioux Falls Lincoln’s team score was padded by 16 points in the triple jump, with Kenya Harris earning a first-place finish. Faith Kpeayeh and Hazel Hughes finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the event. 

The Patriots logged 14.5 points in the pole vault, with Rylee Punt scoring eight points with her second-place finish. Charlotte Lang and Isabel Gillespie finished fourth and seventh, respectively. Kierra Lubovich and Addison Moe placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put. 

Brandon Valley’s team score was boosted by Wyatt Melcher’s first-place finish in the triple jump. Mach Mayen tallied eight points with his second-place finish. 

The Brandon Valley quartet of Trevin Bussa, Landon Dulaney, Caelen Christion and Mikah Peters won the sprint medley relay in 3:27.77.
