SIOUX FALLS — The Sioux Falls Christian girls and boys teams swept the competition at the state track and field championships Saturday at Howard Wood Field.

It’s the fourth consecutive team championship for the girls team while the boys team hoists their fifth consecutive team title.

The girls team led with 162 points, ahead of Custer (90) and Lennox (85). The boys team totaled 95.5 points, clipping Lennox (86) and Hill City (53).

Sioux Falls Christian’s Halle Braun took first place in the girls 100-meter hurdles (14.73) and 300-meter hurdles (44.01), combining for 20 team points. Braun also added three points for the Chargers with a sixth place finish in the girls 200-meter dash (25.88). Anna Vyn added 10 points with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash (57.20) while Ellie Maddox added 10 points placing first in the 1,600-meter race (4:54.74).

In relays, the Charger girls took first place in the 800-meter relay (1:43.81) and the 1,600-meter relay (3:56.86). The 800-meter relay consists of Alexis McEntee, Mya VanDonge, Katie VanderLeest and Halle Braun, while the 1,600-meter relay consists of Emory Lems, Maddox, Natalie Smith and Vyn. The 400-meter relay (49.61) with McEntee, Lems, VanderLeest and VanDonge took second place as well.

For the Charger boys, Bennett Wassenaar finished first in the 400-meter dash (49.64) to add 10 points, Jackson Prins collected four points by placing fifth in the 1,600-meter run (4:28.39).

In field events, Paul Hoekman (169-04), Willem Kattenberg (145-07) and Nick Popkes (143-01) combined for 17 points by taking first, fifth and sixth in the boys discus throw respectively.

In relays, the Charger quartet of Brant Wassenaar, Bennett Wassenaar, Kian Clapp and Levi Davelaar took first place in the 1,600-meter relay (3:23.30). Roan DeJong, Davelaar, Tate Gadbois and Aiden buys took fifth in the 400-meter relay (43.83) while also adding a sixth place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:31.34) as well.
