Deubrook Area girls, Philip boys lead Class B state track and field standings after Day 1

SIOUX FALLS — The Deubrook Area girls and Philip boys hold Day 1 leads at the state track and field meet. 

The Deubrook Area girls have 15 points, followed closely by St. Mary’s (14) and Bennett County (13). Ipswich (12), De Smet (11), Iroquois/Lake Preston (10) and Northwestern (10) are all within striking distance. Herreid/Selby Area (8), Warner (8) and Colman-Egan (8) are also not far off the pace. 

The Philip boys have 24 points, followed by Bennett County (20) and Irene-Wakonda (16). 

The Deubrook Area girls received eight points from Neely Gustad, Kylee Johnson, Kaylee Brown and Nora Olsen placing second in the 3,200-meter relay (9:48.89). Deubrook Area’s Kiana Schmit placed fifth in the discus (112-10), earning four points. Deubrook Area’s Presley Quail, Gustad, Johnson and Olsen scored three points for a sixth-place finish in the sprint medley relay (4:20.85). 

Philip’s Tyce Gropper, Teagan Gropper, David McKinley and Baylor Burns won the sprint medley relay (3:37.79) for 10 points. Philip’s Creston Burns, Evan Henrie, Jack Peterson and David McKinley placed second in the 3,200-meter relay (8:22.65). 

Philip’s Ridge Furnival placed fourth in the pole vault (12-9). Owen Terkildsen added an eighth-place finish for the Scotties in the long jump (19-7.5).
