Girls Basketball

Avon 42, Platte-Geddes 28

MITCHELL — Avon picked up a Region 6B girls basketball win over Platte-Geddes on Saturday. Avon will play De Smet in the SoDak 16 on March 3.

McKenna Kocmich led the Pirates with 14 points and four assists, while Katie Gretschmann scored 12 points. Tiffany Pelton added six points and seven rebounds.

The Black Panthers were led by Cadence Van Zee and Regan Hoffman with seven points apiece. Baleigh Nachtigal added six points.

Corsica-Stickney 44, Gregory 39

MITCHELL — Class B No. 3 Corsica-Stickney edged Gregory in a Region 6B girls basketball game on Saturday. Corsica-Stickney will play Bridgewater-Emery in the SoDak 16 on March 3.

Avery Broughton scored 14 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks to lead the Jaguars, while Rachel Gerlach recorded 11 points and four assists. Morgan Clites added seven points.

Gregory’s Mya Determan scored 13 points, while Cassidy Keiser finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Morgan Opbroek and Asia VanDerWerff added six points apiece.


Winner 68, Mobridge-Pollock 38

WINNER — Bella Swedlund’s double-double helped lead Winner to a Region 6A girls basketball win over Mobridge-Pollock on Saturday. Winner will play Wagner in the SoDak 16 on March 3.

Swedlund finished with 29 points and 20 rebounds, while Kelsey Sachtjen scored 12 points and seven rebounds. Ellie Brozik tallied nine points and eight rebounds, while Jenna Hammerbeck added seven points.

Mobridge-Pollock’s Landyn Henderson scored 13 points, while Mariah Goehring tallied eight points.


Aberdeen Roncalli 57, Britton-Hecla 28

WEBSTER — Aberdeen Roncalli knocked off Britton-Hecla in Region 1B girls basketball action on Saturday. The Cavaliers will play Bison in the SoDak 16 on March 3. 

Madelyn Bragg and Olivia Hanson scored 13 points apiece. Ava Hanson scored 10 points, while Morgan Fielder and Ella Hanson scored eight points apiece. 

Britton-Hecla’s Goiuri Sarria and Sterling Brassfield scored eight and seven points, respectively. 


Aberdeen Christian 49, Warner 44

WEBSTER — Aberdeen Christian edged Warner in Region 1B girls basketball action on Saturday. The Knights play Centerville in the SoDak 16 on March 3. 

Aberdeen Christian’s Joy Rohrbach scored 14 points, while Hanna Miller and Grace Kaiser scored 12 points apiece. 

Warner’s Kyra Marcuson finished with 13 points. Ava Nilsson and Kami Anderson scored 11 points apiece. 


Huron 60, Sioux Falls O’Gorman 51

HURON — Four players scored in double figures as Huron upset Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman in a girls basketball game on Saturday.

Isabelle Ellwein scored 19 points, while Isabella Shreeve tallied 18 points and six rebounds. Hamtyn Heinz recorded 12 points, while Heaven Gainey added 10 points.

The Knights were led by Hannah Ronsiek with 22 points and six rebounds, while Kira Mentele scored nine points. Mahli Abdouch and Bergen Reilly each scored seven points. Reilly also grabbed eight rebounds.


Florence/Henry 59, Webster Area 40

HENRY — Florence-Henry advanced to the SoDak 16 with a Region 1A girls basketball win over Webster Area on Saturday. 

Carlie Moe finished with 25 points and six rebounds. Caylin Kelly logged 15 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and five assists. Taylor Watson added nine points and five rebounds. Trinity Watson had five points, four rebounds and four assists. 

Webster Area’s Paige Snell logged 15 points, while Alivia Baumgreen and Erin Case scored eight points apiece. 


Sioux Falls Washington 41, Rapid City Central 25

RAPID CITY — Ndjakalenga Mwnentanda’s double-double helped lead Class AA No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington to a girls basketball win over Class AA No. 5 Rapid City Central on Saturday.

Mwenentanda finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Alexus Motley scored eight points and nine rebounds.

Rapid City Central was led by Josie Hill with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Amarae Rinto scored nine points.


Rapid City Stevens 43, Sioux Falls Lincoln 37

RAPID CITY — Class AA No. 3 Rapid City Stevens edged Sioux Falls Lincoln in a girls basketball game on Saturday.

Macey Wathen scored 14 points to lead the Raiders, while Jayda McNabb tallied 10 points. Bailee Sobczak added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Mariah Siem scored 15 points, eight steals, and six rebounds, while Addie Fawcett added six points.

 

Boys Basketball

Sioux Falls Washington 63, Rapid City Central 42

RAPID CITY — Class AA No. 4 Sioux Falls Washington raced past Rapid City Central for a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Joe Uttecht and Noah Robertson led the Warriors with 10 points apiece, while Mikele Kambalo scored nine points. Zharic Sheppard and Mandalla Mohamed added eight and seven points, respectively.

Rapid City Central was led by Cooper Totten with 16 points, while Jet Janvrin scored nine points.


Sioux Falls Roosevelt 63, Pierre 55

SIOUX FALLS — Class AA No. 1 Sioux Falls Roosevelt topped Pierre for a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Roosevelt’s Marcus Phillips finished with 17 points, while Micah Johnson added 15 points. 

Pierre’s Lincoln Kienholz finished with 21 points and 10 boards.


Sioux Falls Lincoln 79, Rapid City Stevens 54

RAPID CITY — All five starters scored in double figures as Class AA No. 5 Sioux Falls Lincoln cruised past Rapid City Stevens for a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Caleb Hiatt and Khalil Cisse scored 14 points each, while Elliot Whitney and J.T. Rock tallied 12 points and six rebounds apiece. Gage Gohl added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Rapid City Stevens was led by Nate Kindred with 16 points, while Kolin Ray scored 15 points. Drew Merchant added seven points.


Sioux Falls O’Gorman 84, Huron 68

HURON — Four players scored in double figures to lift Class No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman to a boys basketball win over Huron on Saturday.

David Alpers III finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Gavin Muirhead added 16 points and give boards, while Rush Landry had 14 points. Matthew Eng logged 13 points and six rebounds, while Chad Ambroz scored nine points and John Costello had eight points. Emanuel Struck scored seven points. 

Huron’s Max Kranzler erupted for a game-high 41 points and hit six 3-pointers. Reilyn Zavesky finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
