SALEM — Flandreau’s Faith Wiese and Madison’s Dylan Gerdes captured titles at Tuesday’s McCook Central/Montrose cross-country invitational. 

Wiese and Gerdes both cruised to victories at the McCook Country Club, finishing well ahead of their closest competitors in each race. 

Wiese covered the 5,000-meter run in 18 minutes and :21.04 seconds, finishing ahead of Dell Rapids’ Rorie Thoreson (20:13.82) and Chamberlain’s Grace Phillips (20:35.54). Flandreau’s Calla Wiese (21:47.41) and Chamberlain’s Ava Schindler (22:02.26) rounded out the top-five girls finishers. 

In the boys race, Gerdes covered the 5,000-meter distance in 17:06.85, finishing ahead of Carter Siemonsma (18:36.87) and Tri-Valley’s Jaxton Rinehart (18:40.57). Garretson’s Nathaneal Roberts (18:50.10) and Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Hudson Schmidt (18:59.09) rounded out the top-five boys runners.
