FREEMAN — Freeman’s Lane McCune and Irene-Wakonda’s Ava George claimed individual titles at Wednesday’s Cornbelt Conference cross-country meet. 

McCune covered the 5,000-meter distance at Freeman High School in 18 minutes and :20.63 seconds, followed by Irene-Wakonda’s Isaac Haich (18:42.22). Freeman’s Collin Randall (18:52.93), Canistota’s Caleb Schroeder (19:06.41) and Freeman’s Luke Miller (19:18.97) rounded out the top-five boys runners.

George won the girls race in 21:09.78, followed by Menno’s Zoe Schaeffer (22:54.34) and Canistota’s Gabbie Eichmann (23:01.50). Hanson’s Lacey Easton (23:37.75) and Freeman’s Olivia Schultz (23:41.83) rounded out the top-five girls runners.

The Freeman boys and girls teams swept the team titles. The Freeman boys finished with eight points, followed by Irene-Wakonda (20) and McCrossan (23). The Freeman girls scored 18 points, followed by Canistota, Menno and Irene-Wakonda all with 20 points.
