Matt Gade, of 605 Sports, was recently named runner-up Community Photojournalist of the Year by the National Press Photographer's Association in their Best of Photojournalism competition.

Judging for the competition concluded over the weekend at the Grady College of Journalism on the University of Georgia's campus.

Results were posted Tuesday at bop.nppa.org.

“This award confirms our belief in Made Gade, as a Photojournalist.  Previously from afar as admirers of his work, and most recently as a member of the 605Sports family,” LiveTicket.Tv and 605 Sports CEO Jody Brozik said. “His heart and soul goes into capturing the moments of others pouring out their heart and soul into competition or community… he unequivocally is the best and is deserving of the accolade.”

The Community Photojournalist of the Year recognizes a portfolio of images created by an individual for a specific regional community.

The Boston Globe's Erin Clark took first place in Community Photojournalist of the Year with Stanley Grossfeld, also of the Boston Globe, finishing third. The San Francisco Chronicle's Gabrielle Lurie received an honorable mention for her portfolio.

Gade, who joined 605 Sports at the end of September, submitted a portfolio of images from his time at 605 Sports and previously the Rapid City Journal. The portfolio included images from state basketball, LNI, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, rodeos, county fairs and other local events.

Gade has previously finished second in Best of Photojournalism's Small-Market Photographer of the Year and Sports Photographer of the Year in 2018 and 2016.
