Hamlin's Gracelyn Leiseth qualifies for Division I track and field meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In her first collegiate track and field season, Hamlin High School graduate Gracelyn Leiseth is headed to nationals. 

The University of Florida freshman women’s track and field thrower recently qualified for the Division I NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Leiseth placed third in the shot put at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Lexington, Kentucky, earning a spot at the national meet June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon. 


Leiseth’s mark of 58-feet and 1-inch stands as her fifth personal record of the outdoor season in the shot put and is now the No. 5 mark on Florida's all-time top-10 list. Leiseth finished behind teammate and second-place finisher Alida Van Daalen (59-1.25). 

Leiseth also finished 15th in the discus (177-3) at the NCAA East Preliminaries. Leiseth earned sixth-place finishes in both the shot put and discus at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field meet this season. 

The University of Florida women’s track and field has a total of eight athletes and twelve entries in nationals.
