BROOKINGS —- Just a few weeks removed from the Class A state basketball tournament and Hamlin senior Zac VanMeetern is off to a quick start in track.

At Monday’s Scott Underwood Invitational, VanMeeteren won the 100-meter dash (:10.99) and 200-meter dash (:22.58). VanMeeteren finished second in the 400-meter dash (:51.24), an event won by Lennox sophomore Drake Mikkelsen (:50.93).

Other event winners from South Dakota included Trevin Lounsbury of Brookings in the 800-meter run (1:56.08), Lennox’s Cloy McVey in the 1,600-meter run (4:33.29), Milbank’s Emmett Hanson in the 300-meter hurdles (:42.05), Sioux Falls Christian’s Paul Hoekman in the shot put (64-05), Alex Mainman of Brookings in the high jump (5-10) and Sioux Falls Christian’s Maddox Johnson in the long jump (20-03).

Milbank’s Samuel Rick won the pole vault (12-06) and the triple jump (43-07). 

In the relays Tea Area (Juv Banza, Carter Christensen, Tyler Rhead and Kayden Williamson) won the 400-meter relay (:44.25) and Brookings (Cole Hockett, Jon Kahler, Ernest Ting, Trevin Lounsbury) won the 1,600-meter relay (3:26.58). Sioux Valley finished second in the 800-meter relay (1:32.71) and second in the 3,200-meter relay (8:26.54). 

In girls action, Arlington’s Chloe Raw won the 100-meter dash (:12.16) and 200-meter dash (:25.15). 

In one of the top races of the day Sioux Falls Christian freshman Sadie Pettengill won the 800-meter run (2:17.17) edging Flandreau’s Faith Wiese (2:17.47). 

Other event winners for the girls were Tea Area’s Sydney Stahlecker in the 400-meter dash (:59.75), Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox in the 1,600-meter run (4:57.47), Sioux Falls Christian’s Bailey VanderGriend in the 3,200-meter run (11:53.090), Sioux Falls Christian’s Halle Braun in the 300-meter hurdles (:45.82), Lennox’s Bergan Musser in the high jump (5-02), Deuel’s Makia Moe in the pole vault (10-06), Canistota’s Allison Leber in the long jump (16-01) and Sioux Valley’s Adison Renkly in the triple jump (34-06). 

Sioux Falls Christian won the 1,600-meter relay (4:00.48) and Baltic won the 3,200-meter relay (10:21.84).
